Platform Engineering Manager

Lead the maturity of our Cloud Platform Engineering team! We need a senior, people-first leader with deep technical credibility and a product-mindset to build a high-trust culture. You will empower delivery teams by delivering self-service, automated 'paved roads' in Azure while reducing their cognitive load.\n

People Leadership & Team Health\n

• Line-manage, coach, and develop a team of platform engineers, focusing on performance and career growth.
\n
• Foster a safe, high-trust, collaborative environment where engineers feel empowered to learn, experiment, and hold each other to high quality standards.
\n

Platform-as-a-Product\n
\n

\n
• Own the platform vision, value proposition, and roadmap based on internal customer needs (stream-aligned teams).
\n
• Champion platform thinking across the organisation so secure and reliable tools are the easiest path for all teams to choose.
\n

Cloud Services & Paved Roads\n
\n

\n
• Guide the team in building and evolving a portfolio of cloud services (e.g., landing zones, CI/CD enablement, IaC patterns, observability, and backup/DR).
\n
• Curate complexity to actively reduce cognitive load for delivery teams.
\n

\n
Operational Excellence & Governance\n
\n

\n
• Own production operations of platform services, driving improvements in reliability, security, and cost optimisation via the Azure Well-Architected Framework.
\n
• Establish secure boundaries and governance in Microsoft Azure, balancing developer autonomy with compliance.
\n

Technical Leadership\n
\n

\n
• Set and uphold the technical bar for production-grade engineering, arbitrate hard architectural decisions, and lead technical reviews.
\n
• Lead by example on engineering disciplines like testing, automation, and documentation without needing to be the most prolific contributor of code.
\n

• Strong people leadership with a track record of coaching and developing high-performing teams.

• Solid background in platform engineering, architecture, and Cloud/IaC technologies.
\n
• A deep understanding of the 'platform-as-a-product' mindset and customer empathy.

• Experience setting boundaries, managing risks, and driving operational excellence within Microsoft Azure.
