A respected, privately owned, multi-disciplinary building contractor is recruiting for a Mechanical Estimator to join its growing M&E division in Buckinghamshire. The business delivers Facilities Management, Small Works, Mechanical & Electrical services and full project delivery, with a culture built around quality, trust and long-term relationships.

\n

You will be joining a team of six within the M&E department and will work closely alongside the Mechanical Project Manager, giving you direct involvement in live projects, tender strategy and pre-construction planning. The division is expanding, offering genuine long-term progression as the workload and team continue to grow.

\n

Ideal for an experienced Mechanical Estimator or a mechanically-biased professional who understands how HVAC and mechanical building services fit together and wants to step further into pre-construction.

\n

The Role

\n

The Mechanical Estimator produces accurate, competitive mechanical cost estimates from initial enquiry through to tender submission. Projects typically range from £50k to £2m, covering commercial units, warehouses, light industrial sites and general contracting schemes. Around 78 tenders are live at any one time.

\n

Youll work closely with project managers, engineers and procurement teams, ensuring estimates align with client requirements and commercial objectives. This role suits someone who enjoys being part of a close-knit team within a business that is actively scaling its M&E offering.

Key Responsibilities

\n

Estimating & Tendering

\n

Analyse drawings, specifications and tender documents

\n

Prepare take-offs, BOQs, schedules and detailed cost breakdowns

\n

Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive quotations

\n

Identify risks, exclusions and value-engineering opportunities

\n

Prepare compliant tender submissions to agreed deadlines

\n

Support feasibility and early-stage pricing

\n

Collaboration & Support

\n

Work alongside the Mechanical Project Manager

\n

Collaborate with project managers, engineers and procurement

\n

Attend pre- and post-tender meetings

\n

Support handover of successful tenders to delivery teams

\n

Commercial & Financial

\n

Maintain pricing records, quotations and cost databases

\n

Ensure estimates reflect current market conditions

\n

Monitor material and labour cost trends

\n

Compliance & Standards

\n

Ensure estimating activity meets company procedures and industry standards

\n

Stay up to date with mechanical building services regulations

\n

Ideal Candidate

\n

Experienced Mechanical Estimator within commercial, industrial or FM environments

\n

Strong understanding of HVAC and mechanical building services

\n

Confident interpreting drawings and specifications

\n

Commercially aware with experience in cost analysis and value engineering

\n

Excellent numeracy, analytical and IT skills (Excel, Enzy or similar estimating tools)

\n

Strong communication and negotiation skills

\n

Able to manage multiple tenders and deadlines

\n

Detail-focused, proactive and solutions-driven

\n

Full UK driving licence

\n
