\nA respected, privately owned, multi-disciplinary building contractor is recruiting for a Mechanical Estimator to join its growing M&E division in Buckinghamshire. The business delivers Facilities Management, Small Works, Mechanical & Electrical services and full project delivery, with a culture built around quality, trust and long-term relationships.
\nYou will be joining a team of six within the M&E department and will work closely alongside the Mechanical Project Manager, giving you direct involvement in live projects, tender strategy and pre-construction planning. The division is expanding, offering genuine long-term progression as the workload and team continue to grow.
\nIdeal for an experienced Mechanical Estimator or a mechanically-biased professional who understands how HVAC and mechanical building services fit together and wants to step further into pre-construction.
\nThe Role
\nThe Mechanical Estimator produces accurate, competitive mechanical cost estimates from initial enquiry through to tender submission. Projects typically range from £50k to £2m, covering commercial units, warehouses, light industrial sites and general contracting schemes. Around 78 tenders are live at any one time.
\nYoull work closely with project managers, engineers and procurement teams, ensuring estimates align with client requirements and commercial objectives. This role suits someone who enjoys being part of a close-knit team within a business that is actively scaling its M&E offering.
\nKey Responsibilities
\nEstimating & Tendering
\nAnalyse drawings, specifications and tender documents
\nPrepare take-offs, BOQs, schedules and detailed cost breakdowns
\nLiaise with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive quotations
\nIdentify risks, exclusions and value-engineering opportunities
\nPrepare compliant tender submissions to agreed deadlines
\nSupport feasibility and early-stage pricing
\nCollaboration & Support
\nWork alongside the Mechanical Project Manager
\nCollaborate with project managers, engineers and procurement
\nAttend pre- and post-tender meetings
\nSupport handover of successful tenders to delivery teams
\nCommercial & Financial
\nMaintain pricing records, quotations and cost databases
\nEnsure estimates reflect current market conditions
\nMonitor material and labour cost trends
\nCompliance & Standards
\nEnsure estimating activity meets company procedures and industry standards
\nStay up to date with mechanical building services regulations
\nIdeal Candidate
\nExperienced Mechanical Estimator within commercial, industrial or FM environments
\nStrong understanding of HVAC and mechanical building services
\nConfident interpreting drawings and specifications
\nCommercially aware with experience in cost analysis and value engineering
\nExcellent numeracy, analytical and IT skills (Excel, Enzy or similar estimating tools)
\nStrong communication and negotiation skills
\nAble to manage multiple tenders and deadlines
\nDetail-focused, proactive and solutions-driven
\nFull UK driving licence
\nWork Environment
