Test & Characterisation Engineer
\nSuffolk, UK Onsite working required
\nKey Responsibilities
\n- \n
- Design, build, and execute complex optical and electrical test setups, including automated measurement systems. \n
- Develop effective Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies and perform advanced measurements to support product development. \n
- Create and implement modular characterisation protocols and test methods aligned with project requirements. \n
- Analyse and interpret device performance data to extract key metrics, identify trends, and determine failure modes. \n
- Produce clear technical reports summarising verification and characterisation results, providing recommendations for future development. \n
- Collaborate closely with design, process, test, and reliability engineering teams. \n
- Contribute to the development of test strategies for new device platforms and emerging technologies. \n
- Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to laboratory workflows, automation, engineering processes, and best practices. \n
- Assist with additional technical activities as required to support project and business objectives. \n
To be considered you will need the following:
\n- \n
- Degree in Physics, Optoelectronics, Photonics, or a related discipline (Masters or PhD preferred). \n
- Experience designing and operating laboratory test setups for photonic or optoelectronic device characterisation. \n
- Strong understanding of III-V optoelectronic device physics. \n
- Experience with optical characterisation techniques, including:\n
- \n
- Optical power measurements \n
- Spectral analysis \n
- Optical coupling and alignment \n
- Laser and fibre-optic instrumentation \n
\n - Proficiency in electrical characterisation methods, including:\n
- \n
- DC and pulsed IV measurements \n
- High-speed modulation testing \n
- RF probing techniques \n
\n - Strong data analysis and programming skills using tools such as Python, MATLAB, and database systems. \n
- Ability to analyse complex datasets and communicate technical findings effectively through reports and presentations. \n
- Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes, cleanroom environments, or wafer-level testing. \n
- Experience with automated test systems and instrument control frameworks such as LabVIEW or NI TestStand. \n
- Experience in high-speed photonics, including GHz-range modulation, eye diagram analysis, and S-parameter measurements. \n
- Understanding of photonics packaging, integration, and reliability testing. \n
- Additional programming experience in LabVIEW, C++, or C#. \n
