Technical Design Manager

Were looking for a hands-on Technical Design Manager to lead a small team, ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient delivery of fabrication and maintenance projects. Youll manage a CAD team and a workshop of fabricators and maintenance staff, acting as the link between design, production, and the wider business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate, and manage CAD and workshop teams
\n
• Plan and schedule fabrication, maintenance, and design workloads
\n
• Ensure CAD drawings are accurate, practical, and fit for manufacture
\n
• Oversee quality, health & safety, and compliance standards
\n
• Manage materials, procurement, stock levels, and costs
\n
• Act as the key liaison between design, workshop, project office, and procurement
\n
• Drive continuous improvement in processes, tools, and collaboration
\n

About You

\n
• Proven experience in a workshop/fabrication environment, ideally managing a small team
\n
• Strong understanding of fabrication, carpentry, machining, and maintenance
\n
• Confident using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
\n
• Able to interpret and validate technical drawings
\n
• Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills
\n
• Hands-on, solutions-focused, and comfortable working to tight deadlines
\n
• Solid IT skills (MS Office) and good knowledge of health & safety
\n

Desirable

• Trade or engineering qualification
\n
• CAD design experience and design-for-manufacture knowledge
\n
• Maintenance or facilities experience
\n
• Safety certifications (IOSH, First Aid, etc.)
