POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Pharmacy Technician
DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly
RESPONSIBLE TO: CMO
FUNCTION: To aid in the pharmacy under the direct and constant supervision of the pharmacist on duty.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma
- Minimum of a Registered Pharmacy Technician in Training with The State Board of Pharmacy in the state of Ohio and the ability to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of Ohio within the first 90 days of hire
- Previous proven experience as a pharmacy technician
- Experience with an online pharmacy system and online third party billing
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment and multitask while prioritizing duties
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of medication and dosage measurements
- Mathematical ability sufficient to perform basic calculations
- Knowledge of pharmacy law and basic medical terminology
- Outstanding organizational and clerical skills with extreme attention to detail
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the pharmacist under their direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations
- Helps patients and all health care providers by greeting them in person and answers questions and requests with referral to the pharmacist when necessary
- Handles incoming telephone calls that do not require the personal attention of the pharmacist
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and procedures by maintaining cleanliness of the pharmacy and equipment throughout the work day
- Receive prescriptions from patients directly, fax, and escribe and enter information into the computer ensuring all information is complete and accurate
- File prescriptions in the pharmacy in correct locations in accordance to the record keeping procedures set forth by The Ohio State Board of Pharmacy
- Resolve issues with prescriptions when they arise including but not limited to claims sent to third party programs in a timely manner
- Understand and maintain proper record keeping set forth by The Ohio State Board of Pharmacy and the 340B Drug Pricing Program
- Organize and select proper medications for the pharmacist to dispense by reading prescriptions. Count and measure accurate quantities, prepare bottles and labels for pharmacist to check before dispensing to patients
- Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking stock and placing orders to vendors when necessary
- Receive and restock shelves when orders are received from vendors. Maintain proper storage and security conditions for medications stocked by the pharmacy
- Operate cash register and any other point of sale devices necessary for patients to receive their medications
- Undertake administrative tasks and maintain all pharmacy records as required by The Ohio State Board of Pharmacy
- Comply with all security measures, HIPPA standards and quality standards as set forth by WinMed
- Develop strong relationships with patients that are served by the Health Center and pharmacy
- Contribute to team effort with positive attitude
- Willingly performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
