Job Description
The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is seeking a Board-Certified Hematologist/Oncologist with a minimum of three years of experience to join our dedicated and mission-driven team. This position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to Veterans while working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
\nThe selected physician will play a key role in delivering high-quality hematology and oncology services, including evaluating, triaging, and prioritizing consult requests to ensure timely care for patients with suspected malignancies or hematologic conditions. Responsibilities include ordering and supervising chemotherapeutic treatments, performing bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, and participating actively in multidisciplinary tumor boards.
\nThe physician will coordinate care across specialties, including radiation oncology, surgical oncology, hospice, and palliative care, ensuring seamless care planning for patients with complex or advanced diseases. Duties also include conducting goals-of-care discussions, managing survivorship care plans, and providing long-term follow-up.
\nAdditional responsibilities include:

- Oversight of infusion center operations. \n
- Interpretation of pathology, imaging, and molecular/genomic testing. \n
- Participation in clinical trials, research activities, and quality improvement initiatives. \n
- Compliance with national quality metrics and clinical outcome tracking. \n
- Development and maintenance of institutional treatment protocols. \n
The physician will also provide clinical supervision and mentorship to Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners and may participate in teaching medical students, residents, or fellows.
\nAdministrative and professional responsibilities include attending staff meetings, serving in committees and workgroups, completing peer reviews and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE), maintaining board certification, and fulfilling all required CME and VA-mandated training (including HIPAA and security training). Participation in on-call coverage is required.
