Unit Overview:

The Intermediate Care Float Pool RN role is ideal for registered nurses who thrive in a dynamic setting and wish to enhance their intermediate care experience. This position involves working across two campuses of our organization (Main & Saints campus).

As part of the IMC Float Pool, you will benefit from an hourly differential for floating duties!

Work Schedule:

  • 24 or 36 hours weekly

  • Shifts available in 8 or 12-hour formats: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM or 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM

  • Every third weekend commitment

The Community RN Career Direct Care Pathway consists of four levels based on the RN’s experience, education, and qualifications.

Level I - Less than 12 months of RN experience.

Level II - 12 months to less than 3 years of RN experience.

Level III - 3 years to less than 8 years of RN experience.

Level IV - 8 years or more of RN experience.

Job Profile Overview

This position emphasizes delivering both professional and non-professional nursing care in line with physician directives. Responsibilities include performing various Clinical Nurse tasks: assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care needs of assigned patients or executing nursing care and clinical support tasks as per the patient’s care plan. A valid nursing license is required. This role is primarily focused on overseeing the design, implementation, or delivery of processes, programs, and policies, utilizing specialized knowledge typically gained through advanced education.


Position Summary

The RN will independently deliver direct nursing care to patients and their families, adhering to established policies, procedures, and practices.

Position Details

Essential Qualifications:

1. Valid RN Licensure in Massachusetts.

2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

3. Department-specific certifications may be required based on the type of patient care provided.

4. Experience level must align with the designated level (I, II, III, or IV).

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

  • Engages in and maintains awareness of performance improvement initiatives.

  • Evaluates and integrates evidence-based practices and research into clinical care.

  • Conducts and accurately documents clinical assessments.

  • Develops, implements, and assesses individualized patient care plans.

  • Utilizes professional nursing judgment to tailor care plans based on patient assessments.

  • Manages patient assignments by delegating tasks effectively according to patient needs and team members' skills.

  • Creates comprehensive educational plans for patients and families, utilizing appropriate resources and documenting per departmental standards.

  • Supports patient and family rights by facilitating informed decisions and advanced directives.

  • Continuously evaluates and updates care plans based on changes in patient health status.

  • Develops thorough discharge plans using appropriate resources and referrals, including community services.

  • Assists in the onboarding of new staff members and supports their transition into the unit.

  • Mentors department staff to foster their professional development through precepting.

  • Engages in professional growth by identifying learning needs and pursuing relevant education.

  • Participates in departmental committees as required.

Physical Demands:
1. Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs and repositioning patients.

2. Prolonged periods of standing and walking.

3. Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.

4. Exposure to infectious diseases and potential carcinogenic substances.

5. Risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

6. Requires fine motor skills for patient handling.

7. Requires visual and auditory acuity to monitor patient care effectively.

Skills & Abilities:
1. Proficient communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and the healthcare team.

2. Knowledge and application of the nursing process.
