Job Description
Regional Medical Director Opportunity

Our organization is in search of a Regional Medical Director (RMD) to enhance our veterinary hospitals in the Austin area. This position is tailored for a veterinarian who is passionate about mentoring fellow doctors, fortifying hospital teams, and fostering practice growth while upholding exceptional medical standards.

As the Regional Medical Director, you will act as a clinical ally to our veterinarians and hospitals, providing support at the local level. You will collaborate closely with a Regional Operations Director to ensure that medical leadership aligns with the success of our hospitals. This role combines mentorship, teamwork, and strategic guidance, ensuring that our doctors feel valued, hospitals are well-equipped, and patients receive outstanding care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and Develop Veterinarians: Collaborate with DVMs throughout the region to foster their professional development through mentorship, coaching, and tailored development plans. Conduct evaluations and enhance their medical, surgical, and communication skills.
  • Strengthen Hospital Collaboration: Regularly engage with hospital teams to exchange best practices, facilitate workflow enhancements, and ensure that doctors have the necessary clinical resources to serve their communities effectively.
  • Recruit and Develop Veterinary Talent: Assist in attracting and onboarding exceptional veterinarians to the region. Support the mentorship and integration of new doctors to promote long-term success and engagement.
  • Partner for Hospital Success: Work in tandem with your Regional Operations Director to assist hospital leaders with scheduling, equipment investments, and aligning medical initiatives with hospital growth.
  • Support Growth in the Houston Market: Aid hospitals in expanding services, enhancing medical capabilities, and promoting thoughtful regional growth while maintaining high-quality medical care.
  • Build the Future Veterinary Workforce: Support externship and internship initiatives and represent our organization within the veterinary community to cultivate our future talent pipeline.
Success Metrics for the First Year
  • First 90 Days: Establish relationships with veterinarians and hospital teams while assessing the strengths and opportunities of each facility in the region.
  • 3–6 Months: Initiate regular collaboration and mentorship with doctors, provide clinical resources to hospital teams, and assist in recruiting and onboarding veterinarians.
  • 6–12 Months: Enhance collaboration among hospitals, support service expansion where suitable, and help nurture emerging medical leaders within the region.
Why This Role Stands Out

In our organization, Regional Medical Directors prioritize supporting hospitals rather than overseeing them from afar. We believe that exceptional veterinary care flourishes when doctors feel trusted, connected, and supported. Our RMDs emphasize:

  • Mentorship over management
  • Partnership with local hospitals
  • Collaboration among veterinary teams
  • Balancing medical excellence with sustainable hospital growth

This position offers a chance to influence the veterinary culture in the region, supporting outstanding hospitals and assisting veterinarians in building rewarding, long-term careers.

Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current state licensure in good standing.
  • Experience in managing multi-site veterinary hospitals is essential.
  • Previous hospital ownership or experience as a Lead Veterinarian is highly preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to present key information succinctly.
  • Strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
Support and Benefits

As a member of our leadership team, you will benefit from the extensive resources of a larger network, allowing you to concentrate on empowering your teams and promoting medical excellence.

  • Executive Compensation: A competitive salary along with annual bonus incentives based on regional performance.
  • Comprehensive Wellbeing: Executive-level benefits including health, dental, vision, critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident, and life insurance.
  • Financial Health: Plan for your future with a 401k that includes a generous company match, plus long and short-term disability insurance.
  • Commitment to Growth: Access to dedicated continuing education resources (30-40 hours annually) and our Clinical Tracks Program to stay at the forefront of veterinary medicine.
  • The Power of a Network: Join a nationwide community of over 20,000 veterinary professionals and collaborate with fellow leaders to drive innovation.
  • Peace of Mind: Enjoy company-paid professional liability coverage and free 24/7 access to doctors through telehealth services.
