Position Overview:

The role of Respiratory Care Student is designed for individuals pursuing a degree in Respiratory Therapy who have successfully completed at least one clinical rotation.

Position Summary:

This position involves assessing and providing care for patients requiring respiratory therapy, in alignment with the scope of practice for students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer medications and treatments to patients under appropriate supervision.
  • Deliver and evaluate patient responses to prescribed therapies.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate the patient's condition effectively.
  • Educate patients regarding their conditions, medications, and treatment plans.
  • May participate in medical emergencies and rapid response situations.
  • Maintain a vigilant and safe working environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program.

Experience Requirements:

  • No prior experience is necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly use verbal communication to convey information.
  • Consistently stand and walk throughout the shift.
  • Frequently lift, carry, and push/pull items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Engage in sitting, reaching, and data entry tasks regularly.
  • Utilize vision for tasks requiring near and far sight, as well as color differentiation.
  • Employ the sense of smell to identify and recognize odors.
  • Use hearing to receive verbal communication and detect alarms or machinery issues.
  • Occasionally lift and move objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasionally assist in lifting or moving patients.
  • Occasionally perform bending, stooping, kneeling, and other physical movements.
  • Occasionally drive as part of job duties.
  • Rarely engage in crawling or running activities.

Required Certifications:

For Missouri:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Respiratory Educ Permit - Missouri Division of Professional Registration

For Oklahoma:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Letter of Acknowledgment of Receipt of Application for Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner - Oklahoma Medical Board
  • Or Provisional Respiratory Care Therapist - Oklahoma Medical Board
