Our organization is excited to announce an opening for a Regional Medical Director of Perinatal Care/Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) at our facilities located in Lincoln, Metropolitan, and Harlem.

Reporting to the Chair of the Department, the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist will spearhead our vibrant perinatal and high-risk obstetrics teams across the Harlem, Lincoln, and Metropolitan locations. This role involves delivering top-notch, evidence-based, patient-focused care to expectant mothers facing intricate medical, surgical, and obstetric challenges. Additionally, the position encompasses educational responsibilities, participation in hospital-wide quality initiatives, and administrative leadership of the outpatient antepartum service.

This position provides a unique chance to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes general obstetricians, midwives, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, social workers, and care coordinators, all dedicated to enhancing perinatal outcomes, advancing maternal health equity, and ensuring patient satisfaction.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct both in-person and remote comprehensive consultations for high-risk and medically complex pregnant patients, addressing maternal and fetal complications across all three facilities.

  • Perform and interpret advanced obstetric ultrasounds, including Doppler studies and perinatal diagnostic procedures.

  • Collaborate with general obstetricians, midwives, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers to co-manage obstetric patients, optimizing outcomes for both mothers and infants.

  • Provide consultative or direct care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients requiring maternal-fetal medicine management.

Diagnostic and Procedural Responsibilities

  • Conduct and interpret obstetric ultrasounds, including NT and Doppler studies.

  • Perform amniocentesis, cervical cerclage, external cephalic version, and antepartum fetal assessments (NST, BPP).

  • Maintain inpatient general obstetric privileges at Harlem, Lincoln, and Metropolitan facilities.

Teaching and Academic Duties

  • Supervise and instruct residents, medical students, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, sonographers, and other relevant staff.

  • Engage in residency program activities at Harlem, Lincoln, and Metropolitan, aligned with the learning objectives set by the program director, including lectures, simulations, and journal clubs.

  • Mentor and guide residents and medical students.

  • Support necessary research initiatives and quality assurance projects within the Department.

  • Participate in Grand Rounds and other departmental academic events as requested.

Leadership and Administrative Duties

  • Oversee and manage the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division at Harlem, Lincoln, and Metropolitan, including antepartum testing areas and obstetric ultrasound services.

  • Collaborate with Maimonides Medical Center's Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine for clinical services.

  • Engage in quality improvement and quality assurance projects and committees as needed.

  • Participate in root cause analysis activities as requested.

  • Provide annual data reporting, including outcomes, to Department Chairs as part of the medical board's annual update, along with a divisional strategic plan.

  • Ensure acquisition and maintenance of AIUM credentialing for ultrasound units.

Expectations for the Regional Director

  • The primary work locations will be Harlem Hospital, Lincoln Hospital, and Metropolitan Hospital.

  • Provide clinical coverage, both in-person and remotely, for MFM services at the three hospitals.

  • Offer remote coverage as necessary for other facilities within the health system.

  • Provide emergency coverage for additional facilities in the health system.

  • Be available for home on-call consultations during weeknights, weekends, and holidays for Harlem, Lincoln, and Metropolitan.

  • Work schedules will be determined by departmental leadership in conjunction with the Regional Director, based on facility needs and patient acuity.

  • This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE), comprising approximately 0.4 FTE for administrative duties and 0.6 FTE for clinical responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.

  • Board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and either board eligible or board certified in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

  • Eligible for medical licensure in New York State.

  • A minimum of five years of direct patient care experience in a diverse, urban healthcare setting, with the ability to obtain clinical privileges, including inpatient, outpatient, and surgical/procedural credentials.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual Base Salary: $495,400*, based on a 40-hour work week, including 17 weeks of required night/weekend call and other coverage.

  • Additional night/weekend call beyond the required 17 weeks will be compensated at a rate of $25 per hour.

  • Annualized Stipend: $50,000 to fulfill the responsibilities of the Regional Director as outlined.

The estimated total annual compensation package is approximately $621,400**, which includes the base salary, 401(k) contributions, and other components:

  • Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on the previous year’s average), contingent upon achieving quality and productivity goals.

  • 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS limits):

    • Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings, with no employee match required.

    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings, with no employee match required.
