\nThe Surgical Technician functions as an integral part of the perioperative team as the first, second, or assisting surgical technician or second circulator under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN).\n

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements\n
\n
\nIndependently scrubs basic surgical procedures. Demonstrates ability to problem solve in relation to the procedure being performed. Applied basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care. Applies basic knowledge of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers for optimal surgical patient care. Demonstrates knowledge and practice of patient care concepts and perioperative teamwork. Applies principles of sterile technique during surgical procedures.\n

\nResponsibilities\n
\n
Essential Functions\n
\n
\nApplies the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to maintain a sterile environment. Demonstrates competency in select technical and psychomotor skills, judgment and appropriate knowledge base. Provides age specific care to obstetrical patients in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the department.\n
\n
\nAssists in organization and coordination of supplies and equipment to maintain an efficient and cost effective department.\n
\n
\nEffectively facilitates communication for the unit with all departments. Answers the phone, informs nursing staff of needed tests, exams or significant problems with patients on the nursing unit. Serves as a liaison between nursing units.\n
\n
\nCollects data on assigned patients as directed by the RN and the unit based performance standards.\n
\n
\nPerforms accurate documentation duties on the nursing unit and in patient records as directed by unit based performance standards and guidelines.\n
\n
\nTranscribes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner. Schedules appointments, consults, diagnostic tests and examinations for patients on nursing unit. Initiates, compiles and maintains patient charts.\n
\n
\nPerforms or assists patients with the activities of daily living. Prepares patients for transportation and/or transport.\n
\n
\nMaintains accurate log of admission, discharge & transfer of patient on computer in a timely manner.\n
\n
\nEnsures patient charges are entered.\n
\n
\nParticipates in Quality Assessment / Performance Improvement and Infection Control Committee's as needed.\n
\n
\nAssists with supply ordering, inventory control, and supply chain management as necessary.\n
\n
\nCollaborates with surgeons and OR team to ensure needed trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready for each procedure.\n
\n

\nEfficient with asepsis to maintain a sterile environment.\n
\n
\nAssists with stocking, and communicates with inventory specialist regarding supplies and instruments needed.\n
\n
\nCollaborates with surgeons and OR team to ensure needed trays are available. Utilizes preference cards to assure specialized supplies are available.\n
\n
\nAssist with cleaning and sterilization of instruments needed.\n
\n
\nProper disposal of trash/sharps.\n
\n
\nPrep patient and participate in Time Out.\n
\n
\nAssist with room turnover.\n
\n

\nCompensation and Benefits\n
\n
\nThe compensation range for this position is $24.18per hour - $40.38per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
