\nAssists the professional nursing staff by performing duties in caring for hospitalized patients under the direct supervision of the professional nurse.\n

\nResponsibilities:\n
- \n
- Reviews information on the patient record. \n
- Identifies and documents physiological needs of the patient after conference with the RN. \n
- Discusses psychosocial needs of the patient with the RN. \n
- Reviews and revises the plan of care of assigned patients. \n
- Participates in patient care and planning with the RN. \n
- Plans care to be given setting priorities and delivering in an organized manner. \n
- Notifies RN of any change in patient status and response to treatments. \n
- Demonstrates effective knowledge and accuracy in the administration of medications. \n
- Performs various Point of Care testing procedures. \n
- Documents the effectiveness of nursing care given. \n
- Identifies areas of weakness and formulates objectives to improve self. \n
- Reports deficiencies as observed to improve nursing care. \n
- Initiates appropriate charges and utilizes supplies efficiently. \n
- Maintains a cooperative relationship with medical staff that promotes patient well-being. \n
- Responds willingly to requests for help from coworkers. \n
- Arrives on duty promptly. \n
- Adheres to mealtime and break schedules. \n
- Participates in problem-solving activities. \n
- Incorporates patient care to assure that patients receive scheduled treatments and tests. \n
- Respects policies and procedures of department/unit. \n
- Maintains harmonious working relations with other departments. \n
- Documents growth-producing professional efforts. \n
- Attains continuing education hours to maintain licensure. \n
- Performs delegated nursing procedures after instruction and certification. \n
- Maintains current CPR certification and informs Nurse Manager \n

\nEducation:\n
\n
- \n
- Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing. \n
\n
- \n
- Six months of hospital experience required. \n
- Must be able to read, speak and write English fluently. \n
\n
- \n
- Current New Mexico LPN license required. \n
- BLS Certification required or must be obtained within 2 weeks of hire date. All other required certifications must be obtained within 6 months of hire date. (See Required Department Certification List detailed on the last page of this document.) \n
- Must be able to pass LPN skills competency checklist applicable to area. \n
- LPN IV Therapy Certification preferred. \n
