Pharmacy Technician I
\nFull-time, Day/Night Shift, (2) 8-hour shifts and (2) 12-hour shifts per week. Hours are 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, 7:00 am - 7:30 pm, or 7:00 pm - 7:30 am. Every other weekend and on rotating holidays.

\nPurpose:
\n Responsible for the proper storage and distribution of drugs; receives and accounts for drugs coming from all vendors. Delivers medications to patient care and other areas; picks up drug returns and applicable paperwork; and puts all returned unit-dose products back to proper receipts. Responsible for filling patient drug boxes, floor stock orders, and automated dispensing cabinets. Assists Pharmacists as directed. Maintains daily report.
Responsibilities:

- Accurately fills floor stock request. \n
- Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs. \n
- Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations. \n
- Basic understanding of the concept of physical stability and chemical stability as it relates to parenteral pharmaceuticals. \n
- Correctly interpret physician orders and can distinguish between pharmaceutical orders, laboratory tests, radiology, nursing, and other orders. \n
- Perform monthly medication storage area inspections. \n
- Selects drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form, and quantity as ordered by the physician under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. \n
- Understands microbial contamination and exhibits Aseptic Technique while preparing sterile pharmaceutical products. \n
- Repackages drugs into a unit-of-use container. \n

- Education and Formal Training Required: Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent required, and one of the following: \n
- Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program \n
- Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience \n
- Six months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician Assistant or Trainee within the UPMC Health System \n
- Enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program and in good standing \n
- Experience Required: Must be familiar with a typewriter keyboard and demonstrate the ability by producing a neat, accurate, and legible copy. \n
- The individual must have the ability to adapt to the computerized Pharmacy Information Systems utilized. \n
- The individual must demonstrate initiative and good judgment.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
\n PA State Board of Pharmacy Registration is required for all PA locations
