Job Summary and QualificationsThe Critical Care Nurse Director is responsible for ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care by overseeing the overall operations and staffing of the unit(s)/department(s), as well as managing forecasting, planning, and budget oversight. This role promotes a culture of accountability and teamwork while supporting the development and execution of strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with the organization’s goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish a strong clinical identity by implementing evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and quality outcomes, ensuring compliance with care standards.
- Manage clinical practice variations to boost efficiency, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness, fostering a culture of accountability and transparency in care delivery.
- Stay informed about internal and external benchmarks, accreditations, and designations, actively pursuing efforts to achieve them.
- Maintain knowledge of legal and regulatory standards to ensure compliance, developing and implementing policies and practices accordingly.
- Ensure regular maintenance of equipment in line with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Facilitate efficient patient throughput and high-quality, patient-centered care through volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and admission/discharge planning.
- Develop care coordination policies to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency, promoting interdisciplinary communication and collaboration across departments.
- Direct nursing practices and unit operations, creating policies and standards to ensure patient and family needs are assessed, met, and evaluated.
- Lead efforts to achieve and maintain an exceptional patient experience, instilling accountability for consistent, positive patient interactions that set the organization apart as a healthcare leader.
- Utilize various feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance and identify areas for enhancing customer/patient satisfaction, developing strategies to improve the patient experience.
- Collaborate with experts and patient experience leaders to ensure compliance with evidence-based practices that enhance patient experience and customer service.
- Foster a culture that inspires commitment to the organization’s vision, mission, and values, ensuring employees feel recognized, valued, and supported.
- Identify training and development needs for employees and teams, providing coaching and feedback to enhance performance.
- Build a competitive organization by attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining talent, ensuring the right people are in the right roles at the right time.
- Work with administrative teams and physicians to improve existing services or create new offerings.
- Identify opportunities for service expansion or development of new product lines to drive growth, including stakeholder engagement strategies and technological advancements.
- Participate in the annual budget process, providing input on revenue and expense forecasts, staffing, and supply needs, while monitoring budget performance and addressing variances.
- Ensure effective labor management, including position control, scheduling, productivity management, and premium pay utilization, maintaining appropriate staffing levels for patient care.
- Manage operating expenses, including supply and equipment utilization, identifying cost reduction opportunities and implementing strategies to achieve savings.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree is required; a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred, and a Master’s Degree is advantageous.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Tennessee or a compact state is required.
- 1-3 years of relevant clinical leadership experience is necessary.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 30 days of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required within 90 days of hire.
