Position Overview

Our organization is in search of an enthusiastic clinician-leader to take on the role of Medical Director for Hematology/Oncology. This position will provide strategic, clinical, and operational guidance for our expanding oncology program. The Site Medical Director (SMD) for Hematology/Oncology will primarily collaborate with the Service Line Chief, Practice Manager, and Division Director to offer clinical and professional insights related to their specialty. Reporting directly to the Service Line Chief and working alongside the administrative Division Director, the SMD shares responsibility with their administrative counterpart, the Practice Manager, for managing both clinical and administrative functions within Hematology/Oncology. This role entails accountability for various aspects, including clinical care quality, patient safety, patient satisfaction, clinician and staff engagement, productivity, revenue growth, managed care performance, recruitment, ensuring patient access, and program development and accreditation. Together with the Practice Manager, the SMD will be jointly accountable for achieving practice performance objectives and metrics while providing leadership to both clinicians and staff. The SMD will receive substantial support from the Practice Manager and other members of the administrative team.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Administration (20%)

  • Collaborate with the Service Line Director to oversee clinical operations and practice performance.
  • Provide physician leadership to ensure excellence in:
    • Clinical quality and patient safety
    • Patient satisfaction and experience
    • Staff and clinician engagement
    • Productivity and operational efficiency
  • Support initiatives for program growth, development, and accreditation.
  • Drive enhancements in:
    • Revenue cycle performance
    • Managed care outcomes
    • Access to care and patient throughput
  • Engage in the recruitment and retention of physicians and clinical staff.
  • Work with leadership to set and achieve practice goals, metrics, and strategic initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison among physicians, administration, and system leadership.

Clinical Responsibilities (80%)

  • Deliver comprehensive Hematology/Oncology care in both outpatient and inpatient environments.
  • Uphold high standards of clinical excellence and evidence-based practices.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary collaboration within the cancer program.
  • Support the development and innovation of clinical programs.
  • Participate in the call rotation (currently 1:5).

Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in Hematology and/or Oncology.
  • Unrestricted medical license in Florida (or eligibility for one).
  • Eligibility for medical staff privileges at the affiliated hospital.
  • A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in Hematology/Oncology.
  • Previous leadership experience is required.
