The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals. This area encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. Together, we serve a population of 300,000 across 19 towns.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Using the nursing process, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, effectively communicating the patient's clinical status, and responding promptly to any changes in condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, ensuring age-appropriate care for the patient population. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession through supportive interactions and collegiality, reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

COMPETENCIES:
  • Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
  • Evaluate and manage pain using appropriate tools and techniques, educating patients and families on pain management. Ensure documentation reflects assessments, interventions, and effectiveness evaluations.
  • Develop and adjust individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, collaborating with other disciplines as necessary.
  • Adhere to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their appropriate use based on patient age and clinical condition.
  • Provide all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and promotes positive outcomes.
  • Document the nursing process and patient responses promptly using the designated tools.
  • Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
  • Create and implement educational plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs, assessing the effectiveness of the education provided.
  • Practice autonomously in alignment with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
  • Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to identify specific needs.
  • Assist physicians with procedures in the peri-anesthesia care setting, including cardioversion, peripheral and central line insertions, and epidural catheter placements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of airway management and the use of relevant equipment.
  • Assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Understand anesthetic drugs, their actions, and potential side effects.
  • Deliver accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
  • Must possess Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications upon hire or obtain them during the introductory orientation period, maintaining clinical competency throughout employment.
  • Critical care experience is preferred.
