Job Summary and Qualifications

As a PACU Registered Nurse, you will be essential in providing immediate post-operative care for surgical patients. Your duties will encompass managing airway support, closely monitoring neurological and cardiac conditions, and swiftly addressing any complications or side effects. You will also deliver initial wound care at the surgical site and ensure patient stability during recovery. Collaboration with the surgical and anesthesia teams will be a key aspect of this role. Availability for on-call duties during specific non-business hours will be discussed during the interview process.

Position Details:

  • Your responsibilities in this role will include:

    • Evaluating patient conditions upon admission and during each shift, identifying and reporting any changes in status.
    • Carrying out procedures or functions as directed by the medical provider.
    • Documenting care provided in the patient medical record promptly and thoroughly.
    • Administering prescribed medications and monitoring patient responses.
    • Maintaining knowledge of medications, procedures, and equipment relevant to the care of cardiac and medical-surgical patients.

    Qualifications you will need:

    • Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or enrollment in a BSN or advanced degree program with completion of a BSN within five years of hire into the RN position. Grandfathering will be accepted between departments and entities. Exemptions or extensions may be granted by the facility CNO and reported to the CNO Council members. Each facility will track exemptions as needed. RNs with ten or more years of experience are exempt.
    • Required License/Certifications: Must possess and maintain current licensure as a registered nurse with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. eNLC (Enhanced Nurse License Compact) license may apply; licensees should confirm with NCBON. Certificate: BLS Healthcare Provider.
    • Preferred License/Certifications: National Certification in the area of specialty.
    • Preferred Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital setting.
