Work Location

We're located in Norfolk, VA and Newport News, VA.

Pay Range

You'll earn between $21.00 and $35.00, $120.00 per day Depending on location.

Qualifications

\n
• High school diploma or equivalent
\n
• At least 4 years of shipboard pipefitting experience
\n
• Technical training is a plus
\n
• Great knowledge of hand tools and instruments for pipefitting, like pipe benders and drill presses
\n
• Strong troubleshooting skills
\n
• Ability to work well with others
\n
• Can read blueprints, sketches, and templates
\n
• Comfortable entering and working in confined spaces
\n
• Reliable and steady worker
\n
• Can follow instructions easily
\n

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

\n
• Layout, fabricate, install, test, and repair pipe systems
\n
• Fit pipes and prepare joints for welding
\n
• Work from blueprints and create fabrication sketches
\n
• Lay out and calculate offset bends
\n
• Make flanges in the right sequence with the right materials
\n
• Read blueprints and job-related drawings
\n
• Set up and operate a burning torch
\n
• Fabricate and design pipe hangars
\n
• Test piping systems with air and water
\n
• Follow safe shipyard practices
\n
• Tack weld, silver braze, soft solder, and burn
\n
• Install simple systems without blueprints
\n
• Work with various materials and sizes of pipe and tubing
\n
• Lay out all piping systems
\n
• Run pipe bending machines
\n
• Evaluate joint allowances and build piping systems within tolerances
\n
• Construct dimensionally correct mock-ups for off-site prefabrication
\n
• Work with all types of pipe joints and materials
\n
• Use hand tools and power tools effectively
\n
• Train and supervise crew as a senior mechanic
\n
• Adhere to industry codes and regulations
\n
• Understand and act on instructions
\n
• Wear personal protective equipment as needed
\n
• Work independently to complete tasks
\n
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance
\n
