MRI Technologist / MRI Tech / Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist - North Carolina - Permanent, Direct Hire Job Summary\n
The MRI Technologist I perform procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This equipment includes scanner, post processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment.
Essential Functions\n- \n
- Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. \n
- Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam. \n
- Contacts ordering provider when there are discrepancies. \n
- Properly identify (Using two patient identifiers) and assist patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures. \n
- Prepares patients for the procedure with a full explanation and documents on appropriate worksheets. \n
- Interviews patients for a complete medical history. \n
- Reviews in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMR’s to obtain pertinent clinical history. \n
- Records medical history on requisitions. \n
- Correlates other test results and laboratory data with exam being performed. \n
- Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning of exam until completion of dictated results. \n
- Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols. \n
- On request, records contrast type and amount. \n
- Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed. \n
- Recognizes abnormal anatomy and processes any additional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements as instructed. \n
- Performs basic patient care functions. \n
- Informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition. \n
- Initiates life support measures for patients when necessary. \n
- Assists in “code blue” procedures during medical emergencies. \n
- Performs MRI scanning and assists Physicians/PA during invasive procedures. \n
- Practices proper sterile technique in the preparation of necessary supplies. \n
- Performs all invasive procedures in accordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies and procedures. \n
- Is authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. \n
- Practices principle of radiation safety for self, employees, patients and family members. \n
- Follows appropriate radiation safety standards Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer. \n
- Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease. \n
- Adheres to the hospital fire and safety procedures. \n
- Attends all in-service classes and completes all required safety modules. \n
- Operates radiology computer system to include entering orders and charging procedures/supplies. \n
- Documents contrast administration in the MAR. \n
- Maintains assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion. \n
- Keeps area completely stocked. \n
- Cleans all work areas to promote cleanliness in the workplace. \n
- Assists other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with a MRI scan. \n
- Maintains knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff and patients while in and around magnetic fields. \n
Education, Certification / License, Work Experience
\n- \n
- Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology. \n
- Active enrollment in an MRI ARRT registry eligible or ARMRIT program required. \n
- MRI registry must be obtained within 1 year of hire. \n
- CPR certification required. \n
