Section Chief Non-Invasive Cardiology

Wake Forest Baptist, an 885?bed tertiary care academic medical center, partners closely with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, creating a strong environment for education, innovation, and clinical research. The program is structured to manage the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease, from preventive and general cardiology to advanced interventions, heart failure, transplant, structural heart disease, and complex electrophysiology. This academic integration allows physicians to care for some of the most complex cardiac and vascular patients in the region while remaining engaged in teaching and scholarly activity. Programs include advanced heart failure and transplant, congenital heart disease, structural heart interventions, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and vascular and endovascular surgery.
\nEducation and training are cornerstones of the program. The institution maintains long?standing, ACGME?accredited fellowship programs in general cardiology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, vascular and cardiothoracic surgery, and advanced practice provider cardiovascular fellowships.
\nThe Department of Cardiovascular Medicine was created in 2025, The Department transitioned from Internal Medicine to reflect the continued growth, clinical volume, and academic mission of cardiovascular services across the enterprise. The Section currently supports ~30 non?invasive cardiology providers.
\nPosition Overview
\nThe Section Chief of Non?Invasive Cardiology will provide strategic, clinical, and academic leadership for the Non?Invasive Cardiology Section, reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. The role is designed as 1.0 FTE, with an 80% clinical / 20% administrative effort. Up to 20% protected research effort may be added with appropriate funding support.
\nKey Leadership Responsibilities
\nProvide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Section of Non?Invasive Cardiology.
\nImplement and sustain a long?term vision centered on excellence in clinical care, education, and research, with a strong emphasis on improving health equity for the populations served.
\nDevelop and expand extramural research programs spanning the Atrium Health Enterprise, aligned with institutional strengths and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Translational Center of Excellence in Cardiovascular Science.
\nContinue to grow and diversify the Section’s portfolio of industry? and non?industry–funded clinical trials.
\nRecruit, retain, and mentor exceptional clinical faculty, research faculty, and advanced practice providers (APPs).
\nSupport faculty career development, promotion, and scholarly productivity while fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
\nBuild strong working relationships with other Cardiovascular Medicine section chiefs, enterprise leaders, and collaborating academic and clinical departments.
\nMaintain highly collegial relationships across specialties and disciplines to support integrated patient care and academic initiatives.
\nClinical Responsibilities – Inpatient Services
\n 10–13 weeks of inpatient service annually, including 8–10 weeks with weekend coverage.
Serving as overseeing attending for an APP?led inpatient team; responsibilities include morning rounds, care coordination, and consultative support.
\nTeaching Service: Oversight of resident teams
\nCVICU Service: Reserved for non?invasive cardiologists with appropriate critical care training and/or experience

\nSecondary sites: High Point Medical Center, Lexington Medical Center, Davie Medical Center, Wilkes Medical Center, Hugh Chatham Health, Alleghany, Greensboro
\nClinical affiliations with external rural hospitals: Iredell Health, Catawba Valley Medical Center, VA
\nOutpatient Clinic & Imaging
\n Opportunity to work closely with cardiology fellows in clinic.
Team?based care model using provider pods that include MDs and APPs; APPs manage the majority of return patient visits for physicians within the pod.
\nRobust clinical infrastructure, including Epic, Dragon dictation, and DAX ambient documentation tools.
\nImaging responsibilities will be individualized based on Section needs and candidate expertise.
\nCall & Weekend Coverage
\n Weekday and weekend call shared across NI and IC faculty
On average, one weekend per month (Friday night to Monday morning)
\nOn average, one weeknight every three weeks

\nSuccessful record of clinical and service excellence, research experience, and graduate medical education
\nLeadership experience preferred
