Welder

Location

Work is located in Norfolk, VA and Newport News, VA.

Pay

Pay range is $25.00 - $45.00 plus $120.00 PD, depending on location.

Experience

You’ll need four years of naval shipyard experience as a first-class Welder. Here are the required skills:

\n
• Welding Techniques: Multi-pass, all position fillet and butt welds using SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GMAW-P.
\n
• Heating: Experience with Oxygen/Propane Heating Torch.
\n
• Physical Demands: Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment (shipboard, sub-assemblies, ladders, staging, etc.).
\n
• Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with OSHA regulations in the shipbuilding industry.
\n
• Gouging: Proficient in Air Carbon Arc Gouging.
\n
• Welding Gauges: Ability to properly use fillet and butt weld gauges.
\n

Welding Qualification

All Welders must pass qualification tests before starting work. These tests include:

1. All position SMAW (Horizontal (2G), Vertical (3G), Overhead (4G)).
\n
2. All position FCAW (Horizontal (2G), Vertical (3G), Overhead (4G)).
\n
3. Horizontal (2G) position GMAW.
\n
4. All position GMAW-P (Horizontal (2G), Vertical (3G), Overhead (4G)).
\n
5. Air Carbon Arc Gouging proficiency test.
