Purpose

The primary aim of this role is to ensure the provision of safe, effective, ethical, and culturally sensitive care for patients ranging from infants to the elderly. This position involves delivering clinical education and assessment to nursing and patient care personnel, as well as providing direct patient care when necessary. Additionally, it supports the management of human, financial, material, and environmental resources in alignment with hospital policies, organizational philosophies, and adherence to regulatory and professional standards, including ANA Standards of Professional Performance and Joint Commission guidelines. Key responsibilities encompass orienting new staff, ensuring clinical proficiency, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, actively participating in quality monitoring and performance enhancement initiatives, and promoting evidence-based practices through research application or conducting practice-related research.

This role will also encompass responsibilities related to Infection Prevention and Employee Health.

Essential Job Functions
  • Guide staff in appropriate patient care methods, safety protocols, and evidence-based practices, ensuring healthcare professionals acquire essential clinical skills through various training methods.
  • Assess and evaluate healthcare personnel by providing feedback and competency assessments, while documenting results in accordance with accreditation standards.
  • Create training materials and collaborate with trainers to ensure that educational and healthcare standards for clinical practice, as well as the specific needs of the organization, are met.
  • Deliver ongoing training and education to healthcare staff to enhance skills, introduce new items, provide updates, cover specialized topics, and address knowledge or practice gaps.
  • Inform healthcare staff about patient safety standards, infection control measures, and ethical practices to ensure adherence to regulations and policies.
  • Encourage staff participation in research and other initiatives aimed at improving clinical care and outcomes.
  • Coordinate scheduled training sessions and maintain accurate records.
Responsibilities and DutiesEducation & Training
  • Developing and Delivering Training Programs: Design and execute educational programs, workshops, and continuing education sessions for staff, ensuring they remain informed about the latest clinical practices, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
  • On-the-Job Training: Provide practical training to staff, guiding them through clinical procedures and assisting them in mastering new technologies or techniques.
Competency Assessment and Skill Development
  • Assess Staff Competency: Evaluate staff proficiency in specific tasks or procedures through observations, assessments, and simulations.
  • Identify Training Needs: Analyze gaps in knowledge or skills and create training programs to address those needs, ensuring staff are prepared to deliver safe and effective care.
  • Provide Feedback and Mentorship: Offer guidance and constructive feedback to staff, aiding them in enhancing their performance through coaching and mentorship.
Quality Assurance and Improvement
  • Promote Best Practices: Ensure that staff adhere to evidence-based practices, guidelines, and policies to guarantee optimal patient care.
  • Promote Patient Safety: Educate staff on safety protocols, infection control measures, and patient care standards to maintain high levels of safety and quality in patient care.
  • Ensure Compliance with Regulations: Provide training to staff on compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards, such as HIPAA, OSHA, or Joint Commission requirements.
  • Monitor Education Outcomes: Track and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs, ensuring they meet established goals and standards for patient care and compliance.
Curriculum Development and Updates
  • Create Educational Materials: Develop and revise training manuals, handouts, presentations, and other educational resources to facilitate learning.
  • Adapt Curriculum: Modify training content to reflect advancements in medical practices, technology, healthcare policies, or patient care needs.
  • Manage Educational Resources: Ensure that training tools, equipment, and online platforms are available and accessible for staff.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Work with Multidisciplinary Teams: Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to create and implement training programs that cater to the diverse needs of staff across various departments.
  • Facilitate Interdisciplinary Education: Encourage learning across disciplines to promote teamwork and collaboration among physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and other staff.
  • Provide Regular Reports: Report on training outcomes, staff progress, and areas for improvement to healthcare administrators and leadership.
  • Foster Communication: Promote open communication and feedback among team members and departments, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
Evaluation and Feedback
  • Evaluate Training Effectiveness: Utilize feedback from participants, observations, and performance metrics to assess the success of educational initiatives and implement improvements as needed.
  • Track Staff Progress: Monitor and document staff development, training completion, and competency levels to ensure all personnel meet necessary requirements and qualifications.
Leadership and Advocacy
  • Support Organizational Goals: Align educational initiatives with the healthcare organization's mission, values, and strategic objectives.
  • Lead by Example: Act as a role model in professionalism, ethical behavior, and dedication to patient-centered care.
  • Foster a Culture of Learning: Advocate for a supportive learning environment where staff feel motivated to grow, learn, and enhance their skills.
Administrative Duties
  • Maintain Training Records: Keep precise records of staff training, competencies, and continuing education activities.
  • Manage Educational Resources: Ensure that training equipment, materials, and resources are available and in optimal condition.
  • Budgeting and Planning: Participate in budgeting for educational programs, including identifying resource and material needs.
Research and Evidence-Based Practice
  • Encourage Research Utilization: Promote the application of current research and evidence-based practices within the clinical environment, integrating the latest scientific findings into staff training.
  • Support Clinical Research Projects: Assist or guide staff in clinical research initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and outcomes.
Requirements
