Position Overview:

Our Hospital - St. Louis is on the lookout for a skilled Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT) to become part of our Weekend Option program!
  • This role requires working every weekend, specifically Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM.

Position Summary:

The Respiratory Therapist will evaluate and care for patients requiring respiratory therapy, administering prescribed therapeutic services.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications:

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Evaluate patients to determine the appropriate type and frequency of treatment, creating a care plan based on their diagnosis.
  • Deliver respiratory care services in line with physician orders, departmental policies, and established guidelines.
  • Implement and oversee patient care plans and equipment, monitoring and documenting patient conditions while performing advanced respiratory care techniques.
  • Assess respiratory practices, medication administration, and treatments based on patient outcomes.
  • Provide education to patients and their families regarding health conditions and available community support resources.
  • Assist in the care, calibration, and maintenance of all respiratory equipment, ensuring departmental inventory levels are maintained and processing equipment according to cleaning and sterilization protocols.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and rapid response situations.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness and safety in all activities.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent experience and education.

EXPERIENCE

  • No prior experience is necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regularly communicate verbally to share information.
  • Consistent standing and walking required.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Regular sitting, reaching, and data entry tasks.
  • Frequent visual acuity for near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, including color differentiation.
  • Regular use of smell to identify odors.
  • Frequent auditory skills to receive verbal communication and detect alarms or machinery issues.
  • Occasional lifting and moving of objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional patient handling.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive movements of legs and arms.
  • Occasional driving may be required.
  • Rarely involves crawling or running.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Location: Missouri

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Or
  • Respiratory Educ Permit - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
