The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region caters to approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.
Position Overview:The role requires independent judgment, creativity, and expertise to manage a dynamic Respiratory Department. You will oversee daily operations for a department that operates around the clock.
The individual in this position will exhibit leadership qualities and be responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, as well as the financial health and growth of the Respiratory Department. Responsibilities include managing schedules for RGH and MMH campuses, conducting introductory and annual staff evaluations, and adjusting staffing levels based on established protocols. Additional tasks involve policy review and updates, inventory oversight, quality improvement initiatives, and leading daily huddles, department-specific KPIs, and staff meetings. You will represent the Respiratory Therapy department in various activities, meetings, and committees.
Collaboration is key as you will work to create and implement competency programs, orientation, and educational initiatives for CP staff. You will also be responsible for developing and delivering in-service training and continuing education for all CP personnel, as well as providing orientation for new residents and RNs as needed.
As a knowledgeable resource, you will support CP staff, physicians, RN educators, and ancillary departments.
Your role will involve providing clinical leadership and expertise while fostering collegial relationships. You will be visible and accessible, committed to effective communication with staff, and dedicated to promoting the field of Cardiopulmonary and professional practice.
Collaboration with the Quality Improvement Department is essential to ensure that the Cardiopulmonary Department meets JCAHO, state, and federal standards.
You will perform safe Respiratory Therapy procedures as prescribed by physicians, develop care plans based on assessment data and established standards, and identify the need for alternative actions in treatment plans, involving the multidisciplinary team in any necessary revisions. A solid understanding of operations is crucial.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care program is required. A copy of your diploma or transcript must be provided upon hire. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- The candidate must possess the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care and hold a current license from the State of Connecticut to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of recent, skilled respiratory experience, including neonatal care, is required.
- The candidate must have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and maintain it as required by the organization.
- Current certifications in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are also required.
