Position Overview\n
As a Respiratory Intern, you will provide direct patient care under the direction of physicians and the supervision of licensed respiratory care practitioners. This role offers valuable real-world experience while helping patients receive high-quality respiratory care.

You will perform duties in alignment with Mercy's Mission, Values, and Service Standards while developing the skills needed for a successful respiratory therapy career.
What You'll DoDeliver Exceptional Patient Care\n
\n - Assist with respiratory therapy treatments and procedures
\n - Assess patient needs and help implement appropriate respiratory care interventions
\n - Monitor and document patient responses to therapy
\n - Support patient and family education efforts
\n - Maintain accurate and timely electronic health record documentation
\n - Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams
\n
Promote Patient Safety\n
\n - Follow medication administration and safety protocols
\n - Comply with infection prevention and personal protective equipment guidelines
\n - Support patient identification, fall prevention, and restraint management processes
\n - Perform equipment safety checks and maintain a safe care environment
\n - Protect patient confidentiality and uphold patient rights
\n
Collaborate with the Healthcare Team\n
\n - Communicate patient status changes and care needs effectively
\n - Participate in shift reports, team huddles, and department meetings
\n - Assist in problem-solving related to patient care, equipment, and workflow
\n - Foster professional and respectful interactions with patients, families, and colleagues
\n
Support Department Operations\n
\n - Stock supplies and manage respiratory equipment
\n - Clean and process respiratory therapy equipment
\n - Maintain organized and professional work areas
\n - Stay informed through department communications and training
\n - Assist with additional respiratory care responsibilities as assigned
\n
What We're Looking ForRequired Education\n
\n - Active enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Care program
\n
Required Licensure\n
\n - Current Temporary Educational Permit (Respiratory Student License) from the state board where employed
\n - Required licensure must be obtained within 90 days of hire
\n
Required Certification\n
\n - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
\n
