This role is ideal for a physician who values transparency, strong clinical support, and a manageable scope of practice in a community hospital setting.

SCHEDULE & COVERAGE MODEL:
\n- \n
- 7 days on / 7 days off \n
- 8 hours in?house per day (8:30 AM 4:30 PM) \n
- 24/7 service coverage with 16 hours of on?call responsibilities \n
- Physician coverage model adjusts based on census and acuity: \n
- \n
- Two pediatric hospitalists on site during higher?volume days and peak coverage needs \n
- Single physician coverage during lower?volume, stable census days \n
\n - Call responsibilities include nurse phone consultations, potential admissions from the Emergency Department, and attending high?risk deliveries or stabilizing sick newborns
(calls originate from nursing staff and/or ED providers not from families) \n - Dedicated call rooms available while on call (optional use; no requirement to remain onsite) \n
SUPPORT & RESOURCES:

- APRN support 6 days per week (TuesdaySaturday) \n
- Family Medicine residents assist with well?newborn care \n
- Part?time pediatric hospitalist provides support for high?volume days, call coverage, and vacation coverage \n
- Respiratory Therapy (RT) support available \n
- NRP?trained registered nurses attend scheduled C?sections and high?risk deliveries \n
- CRNA coverage available 24/7 for epidurals and urgent/emergent C?sections \n
- Nursery, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Pediatrics all located conveniently on the same floor \n
SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
\n- \n
- Daily census ranges from approximately 823 total patients per day \n
- Primary inpatient responsibilities include newborn care: \n
- \n
- Majority well newborns \n
- Level II newborns (typical census 14; licensed for up to 6) \n
- Rare Level III cases (e.g., CPAP, hypoglycemia) \n
\n - Straightforward pediatric admissions, including: \n
- \n
- RSV bronchiolitis \n
- Asthma \n
- Gastroenteritis \n
- ENT admissions are rare and infrequently managed under the pediatric hospitalist service \n
- No PICU?level care or complex subspecialty admissions \n

- Needle decompression of pneumothorax \n
- Newborn intubation \n
- Newborn catheter placement \n
\n - Elective / Provider?Dependent Procedures: \n

- Frenotomies \n
- Excision of simple polydactyly \n

LEVEL OF CARE & TRANSFERS:
\n- \n
- Level II nursery accepting infants ?32 weeks gestation and ?1500 grams \n
- Capabilities include HFNC, short?term CPAP, IV fluids, IV antibiotics, and NG feeds \n
- Transfers for higher?acuity neonatal care: \n
- McLeod (Level III NICU): within ~2 hours by ground \n
- MUSC (Level IV NICU): ~45 minutes by helicopter \n
- Established and efficient transfer protocols in place \n
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

- ~1,800-2,000 deliveries annually, with expected growth from Womens Health expansion and regional transfers \n
- Cerner EMR \n

- 2 full?time pediatric hospitalists \n
- 1 part?time (0.8 FTE) pediatric hospitalist \n
- 2 part?time Nurse Practitioners \n
\n - Candidates must have completed a U.S.?based 3?year pediatric residency
