Medical Laboratory Scientist – Hospital Lab (Blood Bank Focus)

Employment Type: Full-Time | Night Shift (rotating weekends)
A healthcare organization in Northern Vermont is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to support a high-complexity hospital laboratory setting. This role requires strong competency in blood bank operations and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
\nKey Responsibilities\n

Perform routine and STAT testing across multiple laboratory disciplines

Strong focus on blood bank / transfusion services testing and workflows
\n - \n
Operate and maintain automated and manual laboratory instrumentation
\n - \n
Ensure accuracy of patient results through proper review, validation, and quality control
\n - \n
Perform specimen processing, testing, and result reporting per established procedures
\n - \n
Troubleshoot instrument or testing issues as needed
\n - \n
Maintain compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards
\n - \n
Support workload across departments during peak or urgent testing periods
\n - \n
Assist with training and mentoring of laboratory staff when needed
\n
Required Qualifications\n

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field
\n - \n
ASCP certification required
\n - \n
Strong blood bank experience required (hospital-based preferred)
\n - \n
Clinical laboratory experience in a hospital setting
\n - \n
Ability to work independently on night shift with minimal supervision
\n - \n
Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
\n - \n
Comfortable working in a high-volume, high-acuity environment
\n
