\nRWJBarnabas Health, the largest integrated healthcare system in New Jersey, in partnership with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, is seeking a Section Chief of Transplant Surgery to lead and grow an abdominal organ transplant program within an academic medical center. The candidate should have expertise in transplant surgery, including organ transplantation and recovery, with a focus on clinical excellence, program development, and multidisciplinary care.
\nAs an attending at Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, responsibilities will include all aspects of patient care and medical record completion, teaching of students, residents and fellows via clinical patient rounds, Grand Rounds, and departmental conferences; participation in community education programs and lecture series; submission of abstracts/manuscripts for publication; and other duties as assigned by the Division Chief, Chair or Dean. Position duties will be to function as the Section Chief of Transplant Surgery.
\nThis leadership opportunity offers the chance to build and grow a high-impact transplant service within an academic medical center, delivering advanced, multidisciplinary care in collaboration with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. This role will function as a Transplant Surgeon while serving as Section Chief, driving clinical excellence, innovation, and programmatic growth.
\nPosition Overview
\nThe Section Chief of Transplant Surgery will provide strategic and clinical leadership for the transplant program, overseeing all aspects of patient care, operations, and academic advancement. This physician will play a critical role in expanding transplant services, enhancing quality outcomes, and fostering a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
\nKey Responsibilities

- Lead and grow the abdominal organ transplant program, ensuring clinical excellence and program development \n
- Provide comprehensive surgical care, including organ procurement, transplantation, and post-operative management \n
- Oversee transplant operations, including patient evaluations, waitlist management, and donor coordination \n
- Participate in on-call coverage and daily rounding on transplant patients \n
- Drive quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory standards \n
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes across the continuum of care \n
- Recruit, mentor, and develop faculty, while supporting residency and fellowship training programs \n
Academic Responsibilities

- Serve as an attending physician at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital \n
- Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows through clinical rounds, Grand Rounds, and conferences \n

Candidate Requirements

- Board-certified in Surgery with fellowship training in Transplant Surgery \n
- Eligible for licensure in the State of New Jersey \n
- Demonstrated leadership experience in transplant program development and clinical operations \n

Compensation & Benefits
\nThe anticipated minimum salary for this position if hired to work is $637,341
\nThe final salary offer will be determined based on qualifications, experience, expertise, and available funding, with consideration given to market benchmarks and internal equity.
