PRIMARY PURPOSE:
\n • Plan, layout, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains machinery and equipment for industrial processing systems in
\n accordance with applicable manufacturer’s specifications, plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
\n • Supervise and instruct apprentices/helpers at the direction of the foreman or supervisor.
\n DEFINITION OF TRADE / TYPICAL DUTIES:
\n • Must be qualified journeyman.
\n • Millwrights fit bearings, align gears and wheels, attach motors, and connect belts according to the manufacturer’s
\n blueprints and drawings.
\n • Precision leveling and alignment are important in the assembly process.
\n • Millwrights must have good mathematical skills so that they can measure angles, material thickness, and small distances
\n with tools such as squares, calipers, and micrometers.
\n • When a high level of precision is required, devices such as lasers may be used.
\n • Millwrights also use hand and power tools, cutting torches, welding machines, and soldering guns.
\n • Some millwrights use metalworking equipment such as lathes or grinders to modify parts to specifications.
\n • In addition, must have all the necessary tools (see tool list) at a minimum.
\n REQUIREMENTS:
\n • Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
\n • Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
\n • Plan, diagram and lay out for millwright’s work.
\n • Read and understand instructions, plans, and specifications and visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
\n • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
\n • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
\n • Use logical step - by - step procedures in work.
\n • Make decisions based on measurable information.
\n • Perform a variety of duties which may change often; and operate machinery.
\n • Listen to other employee’s and supervisor’s suggestions, complaints, problems, safety concerns and recommendations,
\n evaluate each and then devise and implement a plan of action based on that evaluation.
\n • Inspect subordinate’s work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain
\n and take any corrective action needed.
\n • Use appropriate hand and power tools to accurately measure, assemble, and test machinery and equipment systems, and
\n install all other items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.
\n • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
\n • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or
\n minimize hazards.
\n • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e., back-up alarms, smell of smoke,
\n different colored warning tags, warning sirens).
\n • Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in a safe manner.
\n • Keep good balance and have no fear of heights.
\n • Stand, kneel, bend, crawl, or crouch for extended periods, and be in confined spaces.
\n • Climb and maintain balance with no fear of heights on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
\n • See well either naturally or with correction.
\n • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet with full use of arms, hands, and legs.
\n • Doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other conditions while maintaining physical strength and
\n stamina.
\n • Able to perform Heavy Work-Exerting 80 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or
\n 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
\n • Able to work in inclement weather, work needed assigned hours to meet schedules where safety, quality, and production
\n are the standard.
\n • The millwright journeyman will be motivated and work productively.
