We are seeking experienced First Class Marine Pipefitters to support ship construction, repair, and modernization projects in a demanding shipyard environment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience in marine, commercial nuclear, or petrochemical industries and possess the skills required to fabricate, fit, and install a variety of piping systems in accordance with engineering drawings and quality standards.

This position requires a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and the ability to work in physically demanding industrial environments.

Essential Responsibilities

\n
• Read, interpret, and work from ship piping drawings, blueprints, sketches, and work packages.
\n
• Fabricate, fit, assemble, and install carbon steel, stainless steel (CRES), and copper nickel piping systems.
\n
• Perform pipe end preparation using hand tools and/or Wach or Portsmouth pipe machines.
\n
• Install pipe hangers and supports in accordance with specifications.
\n
• Measure and lay out piping using rulers, tape measures, and other precision measuring devices utilizing inches and tenths.
\n
• Prepare and fit backing rings for welding operations.
\n
• Cut and break pipe using grinders and other approved tools.
\n
• Hand prepare V-bevels for welding applications.
\n
• Fabricate piping details, spool pieces, and assemblies from engineering drawings.
\n
• Bend pipe using templates and hand benders.
\n
• Fit welded socket connections and brazed joints with or without insert rings.
\n
• Maintain high standards of workmanship while meeting production schedules.
\n
• Follow all shipyard quality, environmental, and safety requirements.
\n
• Maintain clean and organized work areas.
\n

Minimum Qualifications

\n
• Three (3) or more years of experience as a First Class Pipefitter in one of the following industries: \n
  \n
  • Marine Shipbuilding or Ship Repair
  \n
  • Commercial Nuclear
  \n
  • Petrochemical
  \n
\n
• Demonstrated ability to: \n
  \n
  • Read and interpret ship piping drawings.
  \n
  • Fit carbon steel, CRES, and copper nickel piping.
  \n
  • Prepare pipe ends manually or with Wach/Portsmouth machines.
  \n
  • Install pipe hangers and supports.
  \n
  • Read measuring devices using inches and tenths.
  \n
  • Prepare and fit backing rings.
  \n
  • Clean cut and break pipe using grinders.
  \n
  • Hand prepare V-bevels.
  \n
  • Fabricate piping details and assemblies from drawings.
  \n
  • Bend pipe from templates using hand benders.
  \n
  • Fit welded socket connections.
  \n
  • Fit brazed joints with or without insert rings.
  \n

Required Safety Training & Certifications

Prior to assignment, candidates must possess or successfully complete the following training and qualifications. Documentation must be provided for review and approval.

• OSHA Confined Space Training (29 CFR 1915 Subpart B)
\n
• OSHA Hazard Communication Training (29 CFR 1910.1200 / 1915.1200)
\n
• Respirator Medical Clearance, Training, and Fit Testing compliant with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134
\n
• Experience wearing and working with a negative-pressure respirator (MSA COMFO CLASSIC or equivalent training)
\n
• Fall Protection Training including: \n
  \n
  • Full Body Harness
  \n
  • Vertical and Horizontal Lifelines
  \n
  • Beam Clamp Systems
  \n
  • OSHA 29 CFR 1915 requirements
  \n
  • ANSI Z359.1 compliant equipment
  \n
\n
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Training
\n
• Hearing Conservation Training
\n
• Current Audiometric Testing Documentation
\n

Physical Requirements

\n
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment in accordance with job requirements.
\n
• Ability to climb ladders, work from scaffolding, staging, and elevated platforms.
\n
• Ability to work in confined spaces, tanks, voids, and ship compartments.
\n
• Ability to wear respiratory protection and fall protection equipment for extended periods.
\n
• Ability to kneel, crouch, bend, crawl, stoop, and work in awkward positions.
\n
• Ability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and outdoor weather conditions.
\n
• Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended shifts while maintaining quality and safety standards.
\n

Preferred Qualifications

\n
• Previous experience working at Newport News Shipbuilding or another major naval shipyard.
\n
• Experience with U.S. Navy ship construction, repair, or modernization.
\n
• Strong understanding of shipboard piping systems and military specifications.
\n
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, attendance, and teamwork.
\n

Work Environment

This position is performed in an active shipyard environment aboard vessels, in fabrication shops, and in industrial settings. Employees should expect exposure to noise, heat, humidity, confined spaces, elevated work areas, and varying environmental conditions while following all applicable OSHA, ANSI, and shipyard safety requirements.
