We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Hastings. This role is vital in assisting students with specific identified special educational needs to ensure their progress and integration within the school environment. The successful candidate will be instrumental in promoting the learning and personal development of all students, with a focus on those requiring special educational support.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assist in ensuring the progress of students with specific identified special educational needs.
  • \n
  • Deliver targeted small-group support, providing pre-teach and post-teach input to reinforce key curriculum content, ensuring students can fully access and complete their GCSE studies.
  • \n
  • Clarify and explain instructions to students, ensuring they can use equipment and materials provided.
  • \n
  • Motivate and encourage students by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance, and help with learning tasks as appropriate to students’ needs.
  • \n
  • Assist in areas such as speech and language, behaviour, reading, spelling, numeracy, and handwriting/presentation.
  • \n
  • Liaise with class teachers, SENDCO, and other professionals about individual education plans (IEPs), contributing to the planning and implementation of these plans.
  • \n
  • Implement agreed behaviour management strategies consistently and effectively.
  • \n
  • Help to make appropriate resources to support the students.
  • \n
  • Monitor the students’ responses to learning activities and modify or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
  • \n
  • Provide regular feedback on the students’ learning and behaviour to the teacher/SENDCO.
  • \n

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs.
  • \n
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish supportive relationships with students.
  • \n
  • Ability to work effectively both in group situations and on an individual basis.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of school policies on Child Protection, Health and Safety, Behaviour, Teaching and Learning, Equal Opportunities, etc.
  • \n
  • Proficiency in using ICT in learning activities.
  • \n
  • Ability to provide feedback, encourage and motivate students, and foster an inclusive learning environment.
