This dedicated school supports vulnerable young people who thrive outside of a mainstream environment. The provision focuses heavily on social, emotional, and academic re-engagement, offering a safe, inclusive, and nurturing space where pupils are given the tools to rebuild their confidence and succeed.

The Role\n

We are seeking a resilient, empathetic, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join the team for the full 2026/27 academic year starting this September. In this role, you will work closely with pupils who may have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, autism, or a history of school exclusion.

Operating on a 5-day-a-week basis, this position offers excellent stability with the potential to transition into a permanent contract directly with the school.

Key Responsibilities\n

    1:1 and Small Group Support: Guide pupils through their academic work and tailored intervention programmes.

  • \n
  • \n

    Behaviour Management: De-escalate challenging situations using positive behaviour strategies and a trauma-informed approach.

  • \n
  • \n

    Emotional Mentoring: Act as a positive role model, offering a listening ear and helping pupils build emotional resilience.

  • \n
  • \n

    Collaboration: Work closely with class teachers, therapists, and the Tradewind team to implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • \n
  • \n

    Creating a Safe Environment: Foster a classroom atmosphere built on trust, respect, and mutual understanding.

About You\n

Essential Criteria:

    Experience working with children or young people (experience in an AP, SEND, or youth work setting is highly desirable).

  • \n
  • \n

    A calm, patient, and non-judgemental approach to challenging behaviour.

  • \n
  • \n

    Excellent communication and team-working skills.

  • \n
  • \n

    Reliability and commitment to a full-time, 5-day schedule.

  • \n

Desirable Criteria:

  • \n

    Team Teach or similar positive handling training (Tradewind can provide certified CPD training).

  • \n
  • \n

    Knowledge of trauma-informed practice or SEMH support.
