Principal Engineer
\nHybrid Working - London - 2 days a week on site.

\n\nLorien's leading banking client is looking for a strong Principal Engineer to join a high-profile transformation programme delivering a next-generation cloud-native customer onboarding platform.
\nThis is a hands-on technical leadership role, combining architecture, engineering excellence, and team mentorship to help deliver a business-critical platform.
\n\nWhile experience within Banking or Financial Services is preferred, we are also keen to speak with candidates from technology-driven organisations, start-ups, scale-ups, or other complex engineering environments with experience building modern cloud-native platforms
\n\nThe ideal candidate for this position has strong expertise in Cloud-Native Microservice Development (Python/Java), Containerisation (Docker/ECS/EKS), and GitLab, CI/CD, Terraform.
\n\nThis role is based in London.
\nThis role will be Via Umbrella.
\nWorking in a Hybrid Model of 2 days a week on site.
\n\nKey Experience

- Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering squads, driving engineering standards and best practices. \n
- Design and develop cloud-native microservices using Python and/or Java. \n
- Lead architecture and design for distributed, event-driven systems. \n
- Champion modern DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud engineering practices. \n
- Mentor and coach a team of approximately 10 junior engineers, conducting code reviews and supporting technical development. \n
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, and senior stakeholders to ensure successful programme delivery. \n
- Drive production readiness through observability, resilience, automated testing, and secure engineering practices. \n
Key Skills
\n- \n
- Experience operating as a Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, or equivalent senior technical leader. \n
- Strong hands-on development experience with Python and/or Java. \n
- Expertise in AWS, Docker, ECS/EKS (Kubernetes), and cloud-native microservices. \n
- Experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures. \n
- Strong knowledge of GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, and Continuous Delivery. \n
- Proven ability to establish engineering standards, improve code quality, and influence technical direction. \n
- Experience mentoring, coaching, and developing engineering teams. \n
