Mechanical Design Engineer - Electromechanical ProductsSouth Wales £45,000 to £55,000 Yolk Recruitment is exclusively partnered with an established product development and manufacturing business to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer for its growing R&D team.This is a broad product development role focused primarily on mechanical engineering, with some involvement in electrical and electronic systems. A background in mechatronics or electrical and electronic engineering, or experience developing electromechanical products is required. You will support the development of a new product from its current stage through design, testing and preparation for manufacture. The work will include 3D design, prototyping, technical documentation, validation and collaborating with manufacturing, suppliers and other engineering specialists.This is what you'll be doing

  • Developing mechanical components, assemblies and product enclosures using 3D CAD.
  • \n
  • Supporting the development of an electromechanical product from design through to commercial launch.
  • \n
  • Producing concepts, detailed designs, drawings, prototypes and supporting engineering documentation.
  • \n
  • Working with an electronics specialist to review proposed solutions and ensure they meet product and market requirements.
  • \n
  • Translating user, commercial and technical needs into clear engineering specifications.
  • \n
  • Planning and completing product testing, verification and validation activities.
  • \n
  • Supporting design risk assessments, FMEA and wider product risk management.
  • \n
  • Investigating design issues, test failures and non-conformances, then implementing practical corrective actions.
  • \n
  • Considering materials, tolerances, reliability, usability and manufacturability throughout the design process.
  • \n
  • Working closely with manufacturing teams and suppliers to prepare products for production.
  • \n
  • Maintaining accurate design records and contributing to technical files and product documentation.
  • \n
  • Presenting technical findings and recommendations to colleagues across engineering, quality and the wider business.

The experience you'll need

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering, product design engineering, mechatronics or a related subject.
  • \n
  • Professional experience designing and developing physical products.
  • \n
  • Strong mechanical design skills and confidence using 3D CAD.
  • \n
  • Some experience of electromechanical products or systems involving electrical or electronic components.
  • \n
  • A practical understanding of how mechanical, electrical and control elements work together within a product.
  • \n
  • Experience taking designs through prototyping, testing and design improvement.
  • \n
  • An understanding of verification, validation and structured product development.
  • \n
  • The ability to work with external engineering suppliers and confidently review or challenge technical information.
  • \n
  • A practical, hands-on approach to solving design and development problems.
  • \n
