\nAbout Aldenham Estate
\nThe Aldenham Estate is on the Hertfordshire-London border. The Estate is a family run business with a long and distinguished history. It was until recently largely a farming estate but has now diversified into a varied business portfolio with ambitious future growth plans. Key assets include Elstree Aerodrome, commercial and residential properties, and renewable energy schemes, with land and green spaces migrating from traditional agriculture into environmental and leisure uses, such as glamping, outdoor events and venue hire, and biodiversity net gain initiatives.
\n\nThe Role
\nWe are seeking a capable and hands-on Facilities & Maintenance Manager to support the ongoing upkeep, safety, and efficient operations across all our sites.
\nThis is a varied and practical role suited to someone who enjoys maintenance work and problem-solving across a broad range of property. The nature of the role will be dynamic through reacting to issues as they arise.
\nThe successful candidate will be proactive, reliable, and highly adaptable, with strong maintenance and repair skills and the confidence to identify issues before they become problems. The role requires someone who can balance practical day-to-day maintenance responsibilities with contractor coordination, compliance awareness, and general estate support.
\nYou will be working within the Property team which manages all the Estate’s premises and land assets and provides operational support to the airfield and leisure business lines.
\n\nTerms and conditions
\nThis is a full-time role or potentially a 4 day a week equivalent role (subject to approval).
\nNormal working hours are 9am to 5pm weekdays with the occasional need for flexible working hours during a weekend or out of hours.
\nCompensation is based on a full-time role of between £32,000 to £38,000 pa (depending on experience) with additional benefits of private health insurance, employer pension contributions, and a free glamping stay.
\nAnnual leave is based on a full-time allowance of 25 days plus bank holidays per calendar year.
\n\nJob Purpose:
\nWork with the Property Team to ensure a well-maintained, safe, compliant, and efficient Estate.
\nProactively anticipate and address repair and maintenance issues to minimise operational disruption, downtime, and associated costs.
\nIdentify opportunities to optimise resources and enhance the efficient management of assets across the Estate, airfield, and glamping facilities.
\n\nReporting Line: Property Manager.
\nWorking Relationships:

\n\nMain Tasks and Responsibilities
\nProperty Maintenance & Repairs:
\nCarry out general maintenance and minor repair works across the Estate.
\nDiagnose and resolve day-to-day non-specialist maintenance issues relating to:

- Plumbing \n
- Heating systems \n
- Lighting and electrical issues \n
- Doors, gates, locks, and access routes \n
- Fencing and external structures \n
- Gutters and drainage systems \n
- Painting and general upkeep \n
- Monitor the condition of buildings, infrastructure, and outdoor areas to ensure high operational standards \n
Grounds & Estate Maintenance:
\nAssist with the upkeep of grounds and external areas across all Estate sites.
\nOperate and maintain small plant and maintenance equipment.
\nUndertake tasks such as:

- Strimming and mowing \n
- Drain and ditch clearance \n
- Basic landscaping and vegetation management \n
- General site tidiness and waste management \n
Contractor & Vendor Coordination:
\nCoordinate and supervise external contractors, including electricians, cleaners, maintenance engineers, and specialist service providers.
\nEnsure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.
\n\nHealth, Safety & Compliance:
\nSupport the Estate’s commitment to health, safety, and compliance.
\nAssist with operational risk assessments and routine safety inspections.
\nEnsure buildings, land, and facilities remain safe and compliant for tenants, visitors, and staff.
\n\nSecurity & Site Operations:
\nSupport site security arrangements, including access control, alarms, and surveillance systems.
\nAssist with tenant-related utilities management, including meter readings for water and electricity.
\n\nSeasonal & Operational Support:
\nAssist with the seasonal setup and breakdown of the Estate’s glamping operations.
\nProvide general and reactive operational support across the Estate’s business lines both in response to seasonal demands and as business needs evolve.
\n\nCriteria
\nEssential requirements:
\nValid UK driving licence.
\nOwn vehicle and ability to travel between Estate sites.
\nLive locally to the Estate.
\nGCSE Maths and English.
\nBasic IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
\nMinimum 3 years’ experience in a related maintenance, facilities, estate, or property role.
\nDesirable Skills & Qualifications:
\nIOSH or other Health & Safety qualification.
\nExperience operating plant machinery.
\nChainsaw certification.
\nCarpentry, plumbing, decorating, or other trade skills.
\nExperience working on estates, farms, commercial property, or mixed-use sites.
\nBehaviours:
\nHave excellent practical maintenance and handyman skills.
\nBe confident carrying out minor repairs independently.
\nBe organised, self-motivated, and able to prioritise workloads.
\nHave good interpersonal skills and communicate effectively with tenants, contractors, and colleagues.
\nBe comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team.
\nTake pride in maintaining high standards across a varied estate environment.
