\nOur client, a fast-growing and innovative technology organisation based in Greater Manchester, is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager (Golang) to lead and develop high-performing Agile engineering teams.
\nThis is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on leader who still enjoys working with code, while also taking ownership of team delivery, technical direction, and engineering excellence within a modern cloud-native environment.
\nYou’ll play a key role in shaping architecture, driving best practices, and supporting the delivery of scalable, secure backend systems used by customers at scale.
The Role \nAs Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a team of Golang Software Engineers working across cloud-native microservices and distributed systems.
\nYou’ll balance technical leadership with people management, ensuring high-quality delivery while mentoring and growing engineering talent.
\nYou’ll collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, DevOps, QA and wider stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities \n- \n
- Lead and mentor a team of Golang Software Engineers. \n
- Oversee the design, development and delivery of scalable backend services. \n
- Provide technical direction across microservices, APIs and cloud-native systems. \n
- Contribute to architecture decisions and engineering standards. \n
- Promote best practices in CI/CD, testing, and DevOps culture. \n
- Support hiring, onboarding and professional development of engineers. \n
- Work closely with Product Managers to define and deliver roadmaps. \n
- Ensure code quality, scalability, security and performance standards are met. \n
- Drive continuous improvement and engineering excellence across teams. \n
- Champion the use of modern tools, including AI-assisted development. \n
You’ll be an experienced engineering leader with a strong technical background in backend or distributed systems development, ideally using Golang.
\nYou’ll bring:

- Strong commercial experience with Golang or similar backend technologies. \n
- Previous experience in a leadership, team lead or engineering management role. \n
- Strong understanding of microservices and distributed architectures. \n
- Experience working with AWS or other cloud platforms. \n
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices. \n
- Experience working with SQL and/or NoSQL databases. \n
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. \n
- Strong problem-solving and technical decision-making ability. \n
- Experience working in Agile environments. \n

- Serverless technologies (AWS Lambda). \n
- Docker and Kubernetes. \n
- Event-driven architectures and messaging systems. \n
- Background in fintech or regulated environments. \n
- Experience scaling engineering teams in high-growth organisations. \n

- Competitive salary of £70,000 – £100,000 depending on experience. \n
