Job Description: Building Services Operative / Fabric Engineer Salary £32,000 per annum Shift Pattern * Monday to Friday (alternating shifts) * Week 1: Early – 7:00am to 3:30pm * Week 2: Late – 12:30pm to 9:00pm * 1 weekend in 6 required Role Overview We are seeking a Building Services Operative / Fabric Engineer to join an on-site team within a busy retail environment. The role focuses on planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and general building fabric duties, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the site. Key Responsibilities * Carry out planned and reactive maintenance as directed by the Contract Manager * Perform fault finding, testing, repairs, and preventative maintenance across building fabric and associated systems * Complete a range of non-specialist tasks, including general fabric maintenance * Update and close PPM tasks using the site’s computerised maintenance system * Maintain high engineering standards to optimise performance and reliability * Coordinate specialist subcontractors for both planned and reactive works * Ensure compliance with site procedures, quality standards, and health & safety regulations * Maintain accurate records and documentation of all site activities * Inspect services proactively and respond to repairs and callouts * Work in plantroom environments and at height using ladders and platforms (PPE provided) * Maintain company tools in safe, serviceable condition * Support the ongoing success of the contract with a proactive and positive approach * Complete any additional tasks as requested by management Essential Skills & Experience * Proven experience in painting, light joinery, and basic plumbing works * Previous experience working within a maintenance team * Ability to adapt technical skills within a fast-paced retail environment * Strong organisational and administrative skills * Sound understanding of workplace health & safety * Experience working with safe systems of work permits Desirable Experience * Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Building Management Systems (BMS) * Experience using CMMS or CAFM systems * IPAF, PASMA, or CSCS certifications * Basic electrical knowledge (e.g. use of a multimeter) * Background in HVAC or Building Services Engineering Personal Attributes Professional and presentable appearance Logical, methodical approach to fault finding Strong interpersonal and communication skills Team-oriented with the ability to work independently Self-motivated and proactive Flexible and adaptable to changing work demands Customer-focused with a willingness to support colleagues Benefits 24/7 GP access for you and your immediate family Mental health support and life event counselling Get Fit programme Financial and legal support services Cycle to Work scheme Access to employee perks platform including: Discounts, cashback, and exclusive offers Resources on health, finance, and wellbeing 24/7 support via online chat or telephone INDENG
