Temporary Health, Safety & Compliance Manager
\nSouth East LondonTemporary Assignment: 4–12 Weeks£50,000–£55,000 pro rata (depending on experience)35 hours per week | Monday–Friday
\nOur client, a well-established and highly regarded educational organisation, is seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Compliance Manager to provide interim support for a period of approximately 4–12 weeks.
\nThis is an excellent opportunity for a health and safety professional with strong compliance expertise to join a complex estate environment and make an immediate impact.
\nThe Role
\nReporting to the Director of Operations & Estates, you will act as the organisation’s competent person for health and safety, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and promoting a positive safety culture across the site and associated operations.
\nThis is a hands-on role requiring someone who can quickly assess priorities, provide expert guidance and support the effective management of health, safety and statutory compliance across multiple facilities.
\nKey Responsibilities

- Provide expert health and safety advice to senior leaders, managers and staff. \n
- Review and develop health and safety policies, procedures and systems. \n
- Conduct and support risk assessments, including DSE, COSHH and site-based assessments. \n
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending improvements. \n
- Manage contractor compliance, including RAMS reviews, inductions and due diligence checks. \n
- Oversee statutory compliance inspections, testing programmes and remedial actions. \n
- Support fire safety management, evacuation procedures and fire risk assessment actions. \n
- Assist with asbestos and water hygiene management programmes. \n
- Deliver health and safety training and support staff awareness initiatives. \n
- Carry out audits and inspections to drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance. \n
Candidate Requirements
\nEssential:
\n- \n
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent). \n
- IOSH membership (Tech IOSH or above) or equivalent professional membership. \n
- Proven experience in a Health & Safety Management role within a large or complex organisation. \n
- Experience managing statutory compliance across buildings and facilities. \n
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practice. \n
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and reporting skills. \n
Desirable:
\n- \n
- Experience within the education sector. \n
- NEBOSH Diploma and/or Fire Safety qualifications. \n
- First Aid at Work qualification. \n
- Experience using CAFM systems. \n
