Wakefield (Hybrid - 1-2 days on-site) Band 8a equivalent: £294.03 - £337.36 per day (Inside IR35)

Overview

\n

We are supporting a large NHS organisation to appoint an experienced Infrastructure Team Lead on a contract basis.This is a hands-on leadership role, combining line management responsibility with technical oversight of enterprise infrastructure. You'll lead a team delivering reliable, high-performing IT services that support critical 24/7 operations.

Key Responsibilities

    \n
  • Lead and manage a team of infrastructure Engineers and Specialists
  • \n
  • Oversee the day-to-day delivery of infrastructure services (networks, servers, core platforms)
  • \n
  • Ensure the stability, availability, and performance of enterprise environments
  • \n
  • Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues and major incidents
  • \n
  • Plan and prioritise team workloads across BAU and project activity
  • \n
  • Support delivery of the infrastructure roadmap and wider IT strategy
  • \n
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, NHS partners, and suppliers
  • \n
  • Drive continuous improvement and service optimisation
  • \n
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and development for team members
  • \n
  • Contribute to security best practice and compliance (beneficial but not core focus)
  • \n
  • Participate in an on-call / out-of-hours rota as required
  • \n

Key Experience & Skills

\n
    \n
  • Proven experience in a Team Lead / Line Manager position within IT infrastructure
  • \n
  • Beneficial to have:
  • \n
  • Network infrastructure (WAN/LAN, routing, switching)
  • \n
  • Microsoft environments (Active Directory, servers)
  • \n
  • Infrastructure monitoring and performance tools
  • \n
  • Experience delivering services in complex, operational environments (NHS/public sector desirable)
  • \n
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical work with people leadership
  • \n
  • Strong incident management and problem-solving capability
  • \n
  • Understanding of cyber security principles (firewalls, governance, etc.) - beneficial, not essential
  • \n
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, able to translate technical concepts into business impact
  • \n
