Teaching Assistant (SEMH Support) – Fixed Term (1 Year)

Hemel Hempstead | September Start | Full-Time | £15 - £17 per hour

REED Education are delighted to be working in partnership with a lovely and welcoming primary school in Hemel Hempstead to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant for a full-time, one-year fixed-term contract, starting in September.

\n

This rewarding role will involve providing focused support to a small group of Year 5 pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, working on a 1:3 basis to help them access learning, develop positive relationships, and achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide targeted support to three Year 5 pupils with SEMH needs.
  • \n
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence and engagement.
  • \n
  • Support pupils both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • \n
  • Help implement strategies to manage behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • \n
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school staff.
  • \n
  • Encourage independence, resilience, and social development.
  • \n
  • Contribute to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • \n

The Ideal Candidate

\n

The school is seeking someone who:

  • Has previous experience working with children, ideally within a school setting.
  • \n
  • Has experience supporting pupils with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs.
  • \n
  • Is patient, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • \n
  • Can build strong professional relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
  • \n
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children's development and wellbeing.
  • \n
  • Holds a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience (desirable but not essential).
  • \n
