SENCO Assistant

\n

Academics is currently looking for a SENCO Assistant to support a school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised, compassionate, and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

\n

Working closely with the SENCO, teaching staff, parents, and external agencies, you will play a vital role in ensuring pupils receive the support they need to achieve their full potential.

The Role

\n

As a SENCO Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

\n
    \n
  • Providing high-quality administrative support to the SENCO.
  • \n
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential SEND records and pupil documentation.
  • \n
  • Assisting with the preparation and organisation of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews and SEND meetings.
  • \n
  • Coordinating meetings with parents, staff, and external professionals, including taking minutes where required.
  • \n
  • Supporting the monitoring of interventions and pupil progress.
  • \n
  • Liaising with teaching staff to gather information relating to SEND provision.
  • \n
  • Ensuring SEND documentation remains compliant with statutory guidance.
  • \n
  • Assisting in the organisation of annual reviews and other SEND processes.
  • \n
  • Promoting an inclusive learning environment for all pupils.
  • \n

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • \n
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • \n
  • A professional and confidential approach to handling sensitive information.
  • \n
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • \n
  • Experience working within a school or educational setting.
  • \n
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND.
  • \n
\n

Desirable experience includes:

    \n
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • \n
  • Previous experience supporting a SENCO or working within a SEND team.
  • \n
  • Familiarity with school management or SEND systems such as Arbor, Bromcom, CPOMS, or Provision Map.
  • \n
\n
