Functional Skills Tutor

If you're a teacher who believes education should prepare young people for life, not just exams, this could be the role for you.You'll support young people aged 16–25 with EHCPs, including learners with autism, ADHD and learning disabilities, to develop the skills, confidence and qualifications needed for paid employment.This is far from a traditional classroom role. Based within large retail stores across Wolverhampton, Walsall, Tipton and Merry Hill (Dudley), you'll combine Functional Skills teaching with supporting learners during real work placements.A typical 9am–5pm day includes:\n

• Around 1½ hours delivering Functional Skills and employability sessions.
\n
• Around 4½ hours supporting learners during their work placements.
\n
• A final 30-minute teaching and reflection session.
\n

Learners complete a range of retail tasks including customer service, tills, stock replenishment and back-of-house duties. Groups are small (typically around 8 learners, with a maximum of 12), and you'll always work alongside one or more Skills Coaches, giving an excellent level of support. The ratio is approximately one adult to every four learners.The teaching resources, lesson plans and schemes of learning are already in place, so you can focus on delivering engaging sessions and helping learners succeed.What we're looking forYou'll either be:\n

• A Level 3 qualified tutor with experience teaching Functional Skills English and Maths, or
\n
• A Level 5 qualified teacher (such as PGCE, Cert Ed or DTLLS). Functional Skills teaching experience would be an advantage but isn't essential.
\n

If you join with a Level 3 teaching qualification, you'll be fully supported to achieve your Level 5 qualification.Most importantly, you'll be passionate about helping young people with EHCPs develop the confidence, skills and independence they need to succeed in the workplace.A driving licence would be helpful as you'll occasionally travel between sites, although public transport is possible.The first learner cohorts are now starting, making this an exciting opportunity to join a growing programme from the beginning.Please apply via this advert.
