Higher Level Teaching Assistant - September Start!

Prospero Teaching is looking for a passionate, experienced and qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support the learning of pupils in one of our inspirational SEND Schools in Houghton-le-Spring on a full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a leading role in the Learning Support Department and build positive relationships with pupils to have a long-term, positive impact on their lives, progress and development.

About the School:

• The role is based in an inspirational SEND School setting in Houghton-le-Spring.
\n
• The School supports pupils across the Secondary School age-range who are working at EYFS and KS1 level.
\n
• The School has an outstanding supportive culture and Leadership Team, where staff work as a Team within classrooms to provide high standards of support to pupils.
\n

Pay, Hours and Contract:

\n
• Pay - Between £95-120 per day DOE
\n
• Hours -

• Contract - Full-time until the end of the Academic Year in July 2027.
\n
• Start Date - September 2026
\n
• Location - Houghton-le-Spring
\n

About the HLTA Role:

\n
• The role will involve supporting pupils aged 12-13 who are working at EYFS/KS1 level and have a wide range of SEND and challenging behaviour.
\n
• The role will also involve some planning and delivery of the EYFS curriculum
\n
• The role will involve supporting pupils on both a 1:1 basis and in small groups. The different types of SEND that pupils have may include ASD, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD, SLD, MLD and PMLD.
\n
• Some pupils may require personal care and some pupils may be none-verbal or pre-verbal.
\n
• A key part of the role will also be to develop an understanding of the different learning styles of different pupils within the classroom, working closely alongside colleagues to establish this.
\n

Experience/Qualifications and Requirements:

\n
• A Supporting Teaching and Learning or HLTA Qualification
\n
• Experience of working with Children in Schools in the UK
\n
• Experience within an SEND School Setting (desired)
\n
• Experience of planning and delivering learning activities to small groups of pupils.
\n

\n
• An ability to build positive relationships and a rapport with pupils and staff.
\n
• A genuine passion for supporting pupils with SEND within an SEND School
\n

\n
• Knowledge of the EYFS
\n
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
\n
• Ability to differentiate learning activities to suit different needs, learning styles and ages.
\n
