Job Description

Work on technology that directly supports Defence and National Security. Inspire People is seeking an experienced Support Engineer to join a rapidly growing engineering team in Farnborough, delivering secure digital solutions across the UK Defence and National Security sector. You will provide 1st and 2nd line support across highly secure environments, helping ensure critical systems remain operational for mission-critical users. Permanent role, with a salary of up to £40,000 plus benefits. The position requires five days per week onsite in Farnborough. Candidates must hold an active SC or DV clearance, also available on a contractual basis.

About the 1st/2nd Support Engineer

\n

As a Support Engineer, you'll play a key role in supporting secure IT environments used within Defence and National Security. Working alongside infrastructure engineers, architects and technical specialists, you'll provide responsive technical support, maintain end-user services, and help ensure the reliability and security of mission-critical systems.

\n

You'll be responsible for resolving technical issues, supporting users both remotely and onsite, maintaining accurate documentation, and escalating complex incidents where appropriate.

\n

Occasional travel to customer sites may be required.

\n

Responsibilitiesof the1st/2nd Support Engineer

  • Provide 1st and 2nd line technical support across secure environments.
  • \n
  • Respond to support tickets, ensuring timely resolution and regular communication with users.
  • \n
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software and infrastructure issues, escalating complex problems to 3rd line support when required.
  • \n
  • Deliver desk-side and remote end-user support.
  • \n
  • Provision end-user devices and onboard new users.
  • \n
  • Administer Microsoft 365, Windows, Azure/Entra ID and Active Directory environments.
  • \n
  • Monitor system alerts, triage incidents and escalate where necessary.
  • \n
  • Communicate planned maintenance and service incidents to the user community.
  • \n
  • Maintain accurate ticket updates and contribute to the knowledge base.
  • \n
  • Support incident management processes, including major incident escalation.
  • \n
  • Assist with maintaining secure, reliable IT services within highly regulated environments.
  • \n
  • Travel to remote customer locations on occasion where required.
  • \n

Essential Criteria

  • Windows 10/11 administration
  • \n
  • Azure/Entra/AD administration
  • \n
  • Microsoft 365 administration

  • Endpoint Management
  • \n
  • Running of PowerShell scripts
  • \n
  • End User Device provisioning, onboarding of users
  • \n
  • Understanding of security concepts (MFA, Conditional Access)
  • \n
  • Atlassian suite of ITSM equivalent tooling
  • \n
  • Linux exposure (Ubuntu, CentOS)Must hold, or be eligible to work within, the highest level of UK Security Clearance.
