Job Description

Associate Director/Technical Director – Climate Change & Sustainability – London, South East, South West, North West or Yorkshire (Hybrid) A leading independent environmental consultancy with over 30 years' experience and offices across the UK and Europe is looking to appoint an experienced Associate Director or Technical Director to help lead their growing climate change team. The role is available across several regional offices, with hybrid working arrangements and flexibility for part-time applicants where suitable. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior consultant to take a leading role in managing the existing team, delivering planning-focused carbon and climate change work, and helping expand the firm's wider climate and sustainability advisory services across the public and private sectors. The Role: Providing leadership across a range of ongoing carbon and climate change projects, with a client-facing role managing project teams and delivery Leading and delivering greenhouse gas and climate change risk and resilience assessments as part of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), including major DCO schemes Supporting the growth of broader advisory services, including Net Zero roadmaps, corporate GHG inventories, climate risk and adaptation planning, ESG strategies, and whole life carbon assessments Contributing to the development of new proposals and business development activity Mentoring and supporting junior team members, with potential involvement in line management Working collaboratively across teams, including with the firm's Environmental Policy and Economics specialistsWhat's Required: Strong understanding of UK climate change and planning legislation and policy Experience leading GHG and climate change assessments within an EIA context (DCO experience valued but not essential) Experience drafting Environmental Statement chapters and technical reports A track record delivering climate risk, adaptation, and resilience studies, and supporting corporate Net Zero and sustainability strategies Proven consultancy experience, with financial control, project management, and bid preparation/business development experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience engaging a wide range of stakeholders Strong technical capability, collaborative approach, and a track record in thought leadership or strategic adviceWhat's on Offer: Competitive salary Enhanced pension scheme and private medical insurance Competitive annual leave, increasing with length of service, plus an annual leave purchase scheme Rail and bus season ticket loans, cycle scheme, and group life assurance Structured training, CPD programme, and genuine career development as the company growsThis role would suit a senior climate change and sustainability consultant ready to help shape the strategic direction of a growing, well-established team.
