Role: Java DeveloperType: Contract Location: Newcastle, UK (Hybrid)Duration: 12 monthsRole OverviewWe’re looking for an experienced Java Developer to join a high-performing engineering team delivering secure, scalable, enterprise-grade systems. You’ll be working on modernising platforms using Spring Boot and microservices architecture, deploying into cloud environments (AWS), and contributing to best-in-class engineering practices. This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex, high-impact systems within a collaborative Agile environment.Key Responsibilities\n

- Develop and maintain Java-based microservices using JDK 11+ and Spring Boot \n
- Design and build modular, scalable, and maintainable applications \n
- Work with enterprise middleware including WebLogic Server and CAS SDK \n
- Collaborate with cloud and infrastructure teams to deploy solutions into AWS \n
- Contribute to containerised deployments (Docker/Kubernetes) \n
- Promote engineering best practices including:\n
- \n
- Test Driven Development (TDD) \n
- Continuous Integration / Continuous Testing \n
- Coding standards & branching strategies \n
\n - Support system design by helping decompose monolithic systems into microservices \n
- Partner with QA teams to ensure both functional and non-functional testing \n
- Actively participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies \n

- Strong hands-on experience with Java (JDK 11+) \n
- Proven development experience using Spring Boot \n
- Experience building and integrating microservices architectures \n
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services \n
- Experience with enterprise middleware (WebLogic, CAS or similar) \n
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices \n
- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies \n

- Experience with Docker / Kubernetes \n
- Exposure to API security protocols (OAuth, JWT, CAS) \n
- Experience working in large enterprise environments \n
- Knowledge of test automation frameworks \n
