(Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

Role Overview

The City of Bedford is seeking a skilled and reliable Equipment Mechanic to join our Service Department team. In this vital municipal role, you will perform high-level diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work across a diverse fleet of city assets. Your technical expertise will keep our public works construction equipment, emergency support systems, and utility vehicles running safely to serve the Bedford community.

Key Responsibilities

• Fleet Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot, service, and overhaul gasoline and diesel engines across light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles.
• Equipment Maintenance: Diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment, small engines, and municipal pump systems.
• Metalworking & Fabrication: Perform custom welding and fabrication to repair vehicle bodies, structural parts, and specialized attachments.
• Preventative Safety: Conduct routine safety inspections and preventative maintenance to minimize city fleet downtime.
• Operational Readiness: Keep detailed logs of repairs, part inventories, and maintenance schedules.

Position Requirements

• Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of proven experience in diesel/gasoline repair, construction equipment maintenance, welding, and fabrication.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent certification.
• Physical Capability: Must be in good physical condition to handle heavy lifting, bending, and long periods of standing in a shop environment.
• Licenses: A valid State of Ohio Drivers License is required. A valid State of Ohio Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is highly desired.
• Pre-Employment Screening: Passing a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and comprehensive background check is mandatory.
