\n Overview: We are seeking experienced Sheet Metal Mechanics to support ship repair and modernization projects in Newport News, VA. The ideal candidate will have extensive shipyard experience performing installation and repair of shipboard habitability systems, ventilation ducting, and related sheet metal components. This position requires strong blueprint reading skills, knowledge of ship repair procedures, and the ability to work safely in a demanding maritime environment.\n

\n Responsibilities\n
\n- \n
- Repair and install shipboard habitability spaces and related components \n
- Install and repair berthing equipment, galley equipment, ventilation ducting, and joiner doors \n
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and job specifications \n
- Fabricate, fit, and install sheet metal components in accordance with project requirements \n
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently \n
- Utilize shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, routers, and other fabrication machinery \n
- Perform work in compliance with shipyard safety and quality standards \n
- Maintain a clean and organized work area \n
- Follow all OSHA and shipyard safety requirements, including the proper use of PPE \n
\n Qualifications\n
\n- \n
- Minimum five (5+) years of recent shipyard experience as a Sheet Metal Mechanic \n
- Ability to pass all required pre-employment tests \n
- Experience repairing and installing:\n
- \n
- Shipboard habitability spaces \n
- Berthing equipment \n
- Galley equipment \n
- Heating and cooling ventilation ducting \n
- Joiner doors \n
\n - Working knowledge of ship repair procedures and testing requirements \n
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery \n
- Comprehensive understanding of ship terminology \n
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications \n
- Strong measurement and layout skills \n
- Must be physically and medically capable of wearing all required PPE, including respirators, safety harnesses, flotation gear, and other protective equipment \n
- Must be a U.S. Citizen \n
