Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment)

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary: Competitive pay structure, with annual performance bonuses and regular salary increments.
• Paid Time Off: Enjoy 50-55 days of paid leave annually, which includes 26 days of vacation, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and potentially 5 days of paid absence for Continuing Medical Education (CME).

Position Overview

The Cardiologist Physician is a specialized healthcare provider responsible for delivering comprehensive care within their field. This role is full-time and will serve the Eastern Kansas Health Care System (EKHCS) at the Leavenworth campus.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver competent care to a diverse population of Veterans, considering cultural, socio-economic, military service, and age-related factors.
• Gather relevant health and medical histories from patients.
• Conduct physical examinations tailored to the patient's age and medical history.
• Perform or order preventive and diagnostic procedures based on patient history.
• Identify health and medical risk factors.
• Utilize critical thinking in the diagnostic process.
• Synthesize and analyze collected data to formulate differential diagnoses.
• Establish priorities to address the health needs of Veterans.
• Create individualized treatment plans.
• Order additional diagnostic tests as necessary.
• Select appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
• Develop patient education plans.
• Initiate consultations or referrals as needed.
• Provide individualized care to meet the identified needs of Veterans.
• Implement interventions consistent with the treatment plan.
• Order, conduct, and accurately interpret diagnostic tests, communicating results to patients.
• Prescribe pharmacologic agents and/or non-pharmacologic therapies as indicated.
• Maintain current knowledge of advanced pharmacology and therapeutics.
• Follow standardized procedures and current clinical guidelines.
• Provide relevant patient education and make appropriate referrals to other healthcare professionals and community agencies.
• Participate in peer reviews as assigned.
• Utilize appropriate healthcare resources effectively.
• Obtain informed consent when necessary.
• Maintain a systematic follow-up process.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans promptly.
• Document the effects of interventions and outcomes accurately in patient records.
• Reassess and modify treatment plans as needed to achieve healthcare goals.
• Serve on committees, teams, and workgroups as requested by administration.
• Complete all required training as mandated by the organization.
• Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive healthcare plans for patients within the specialty.
• Provide ongoing inpatient or outpatient care in the assigned clinical setting.
• In an inpatient setting, conduct rounds to observe and document patient progress, updating medical records and notifying the responsible physician of significant changes.
• In the outpatient setting, evaluate patients and manage acute and chronic illnesses, focusing on stable condition maintenance, preventive care, and screenings. Collaborate with other physicians regarding diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as necessary.

Work Schedule

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
