About the Opportunity
Insight Global is seeking a highly skilled Application Developer for Amsted Rail to design, develop, and support the critical software systems that power manufacturing operations across North America. This position sits at the intersection of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT), developing applications that drive industrial machinery, manufacturing processes, and enterprise operations.

What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable custom software solutions using the Microsoft .NET ecosystem.
- Build and maintain modular desktop applications utilizing WPF and Prism frameworks.
- Develop industrial dashboards and manufacturing applications that support production operations.
- Support, maintain, and enhance enterprise systems utilizing SQL Server, Entity Framework, Stored Procedures, and WCF services.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software, database, and integration issues across manufacturing facilities and steel foundries.
- Lead optimization efforts for highly concurrent applications, legacy systems, and real-time data integrations.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, system architecture designs, and deployment procedures.
- Collaborate with controls engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate operational requirements into technical solutions.
- Evaluate and recommend modern development tools, frameworks, and best practices to improve business efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Advanced experience with:
- C#
- ASP.NET
- .NET Core / .NET 8+
- Strong SQL Server expertise, including:
- Database architecture
- Complex stored procedures
- Query optimization
- Performance tuning
- Extensive experience with Entity Framework (ORM).
- Experience supporting, troubleshooting, and developing enterprise applications.
- Strong understanding of:
- Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
- Design Patterns
- Software Architecture
- Experience with version control systems, automated testing, and debugging tools.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Agile and Scrum development experience.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to align technology solutions to operational goals.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial automation, raw materials processing, oil & gas, or heavy industrial environments.
- Familiarity with AI productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar technologies.
